Guest guest
Hey ! I'm the same Becky#2 from the other site too Yeah, they tried to repair the fistula and cleft at the same time as the LeFort. The surgeon was really concerned about the bone graft taking because of lack of blood flow due to the advancement. Also, he was very concerned with infection. After four weeks, it appeared that everything had healed pretty well - all the incision sites were closed...but the tissue around where my cleft would be were still really raised. It's really hard to tell if it's still a cleft - or just the way the tissue is sitting. I can say that if I rinse with water/mouth wash - it doesn't come out my nose like before...but I think I can feel air on my tongue when I breathe through my nose. I just really wish it was over. They say any further bone grafting or fistula closing would be a walk in the park after this...but I was hoping not to have to. I already know I have to get my nose and lip revised in 7 months...and I still need the dental implant. Sometimes it seems a little overwhelming. Sigh. Thanks for listening... -becky
Guest guest
Hey Becky! I thaught it was you but wasn't sure! My surgeon decided against repairing the fistula this time because he didn't think it would hold with everything else that he was doing. In a way i'm glad he didn't. Have you had fistula repair before? I have had several of them done and yes they are a walk in the park compared to this surgery. I will also be having my lip and nose revised hopefully in around 4 months depending on my recovery! I will be having a section of my upper lip removed OUCH!! I know exactly how you're feeling I too often wish it was all over and I could get back to my usuall routine. Any time you need to chat I am here for you! E-mail me privately if you want or on here up too you! rebwend wrote: Hey ! Guest guest
Becky, I think that you folks who come in with a cleft are absolutely amazing. And so are the surgeons and dentists who are sooo much better than they used to be about helping repair such difficulties. I doubt that I could have done what you have done with anywhere near as much equanimity. I salute you, and hope, indeed, that any further procedures will be " a walk in a park. " Not a walk in a Lower Alabama park today, though... It's hot as Hades and muggier than any London fog. I wish for you a spring walk through the edelweiss in Switzerland or Austria, with wonderful mountain breezes, Mozart and a platter of lovely cheese, fruit and wine. Howzzat for an idyll? Don't let it get you down. You've done so much, and you can get through whatever's left, as long as it serves you well. Guest guest
Hi Becky, Here in the UK you're admitted into hospital the day before the surgery and you have to stay the night of the surgery and if all is well you are discharged the day after surgery. The recovery has been quick about 1-2 weeks if there is no infection etc How ever a 6 weeks soft diet is a must to make sure that nothing damages the palate while it's healing. I haven't had a bone graft before. My surgeon has mentioned that he will take some cartlidge from my ear to repair the fistula of that fails then he will use some bone. Thank you! --------------------------------- Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page
