Guest guest
Hi, That is great news! Thanks for sharing. got a haircut today too. I was so nervous! I see the plagio up high, but it is less than last haircut seven weeks ago. At the lower levels, 's head looks pretty good and much better than a few months ago. When we are done treating 's plagio as aggressively, we plan to let his hair grow out. I figure the scans are more accurate when his hair is short. Also, the osteopath and chiro can see his head better. Hopefully we get more improvement as we approach the end of the second year too. -Kathy, mom to 20 months, treating plagio 8 months wrote: So turned 2 on Jan 5. He started wearing a Starband full time on July 14 09 for mild plagio. On jan 6 10 the scan showed the total growth in 6 mos had been 6.9mm. Most of it went on the back at level 3, a little bit on the forehead, where needed, nothing at level 5. The ortho that day was exceptionally available to explain again, whereas the previous few times had seemed quite done with us probably just tired and in need of a vacation, I guess. That day encouraged by the ortho I was glad I could have him wear the helmet a little longer considering his adjusted age (21 mos) and the fact that we are all so used to it we have no problem about it, hoping for improvement at level 5. If I had any doubt about that it disappeared when last week the helmet saved him once again:we were shopping, he was sitting in the cart and my 4 yrold balancing along the side edge of the cart made the whole thing fall to the ground. hit his banded head but no harm only a big scare. Lastly a few days ago I gave him a dreaded haircut. I thought he would look worse but to my surprise he looks awesome. So maybe there's been some more tiny improvement, higher than level 3 in the last 2-3 wks because now I can look at him from the top and not see the triangle I used to obsess over. I still can't believe it. I keep thinking it must be me imagining, wishful thinking and such. But it's been days now and he still looks very good to me. To conclude I'm really happy I decided to band even so late. It did make a difference. Guest guest
That is great news and you must feel so happy. Maysa also turned 2 in January and while she has been out of her last DOC band since May 09, she has kept improving on her own. She still has very very mild plagio that I honestly cannot see anymore no matter the angle but her brachy has improved by another 4 to 5% post DOC band. Only 1mm went to her sides and almost 10 mm went to the front and back in 8 to 9 months. Her CI is now in the upper 80's which might still sound high for some but considering her age, I feel like we've finally hit "normal". Will you be getting another report or has your son already graduated? Leila,Maysa, 2 yo, DOC band Grad 5.26.09www.mymaysa.wordpress.com So turned 2 on Jan 5. Guest guest
Yes Leila I am very happy and so thankful to this group. The whole helmet experience has been totally worth it. He has not graduated yet so there's going to be another final scan. I would like to have him wear it til March so a total of 8 mos. There's still room for improvement at level 5, just to be picky. And I'm so used to it, he is too, that I totally forget about it until I notice people looking at him a little longer. And when he is not wearing it I'm afraid he is going to fall and hurt himself. I'm the one who's going to need weaning from it I'm afraid. I read your update on Maysa and I am very very happy for you. That's an awesome result. The ponytail was such a great idea. You must have been on the moon when you saw that scan. , Tampa, Fl, 24 mos, starband for 6 1/2 mos for mild plagio Plagiocephaly From: leilarem@...Date: Mon, 1 Feb 2010 07:27:58 -0800Subject: Re: update 24 mos old starband That is great news and you must feel so happy.
