Guest guest
Hey All So today I got desplinted and it feels soooooo weird! Suddenly I have all this tissue and gum area for my tongue to roll around on and it feels all gooey and strange. And my back teeth are so much more forward than they were before. Strangest of all is seeing how well my front teeth close now. Absolutely no open bite at all. Impressive. My mom started crying when she saw me without the splint. She said she hadn't seen my teeth close that well since I was a toddler. Anyway, I now have very tight elastics again, like the ones I had immediately post-op. I have to keep them on until tomorrow morning when I go and see my OD who will put in my new archwire to support my upper jaw without the splint so soup it is again for me tonight! On the way back from my OS we almost got into a car accident (when it rains in NYC drivers seem to go crazy) and I was just so terrified of something happening to my jaw now that I don't have the splint. Almost started crying. I know, I'm ridiculous. I think the sensitivity is coming back to my teeth and gums because I am getting sharp pain in that area. Anyway, I go back to my OS on Thursday just before I head to the airport and hopefully he'll be pleased with what he sees and won't have to put back the splint in. Fingers crossed. I must say, this new bite will take some getting used to. Because everything is positioned in a new place right now I still talk funny. Much better than with the splint obviously but I still have a slight lisp. My OS said that as I talk more and more it should go away. Here's to hoping. Right now I'm just so pleased with the results. I have a proper bite! Whooohoooo!! I still look weird when I smile because my upper lip area is still numb but I am so happy!! I'll try to post some more pics of my new bite later. For now I just wanted to update all of you on my progress. Thanks so much for listening! Sara
