I'm not sure what you are waiting for on your ins if they won't pay anyway, but the sooner you can start treatment the better. have you already had a consult for a band? what did they tell you to expect in terms of treatment? From: valleyranchchamps <andiescandies24@...>Subject: getting band at 8 mos..too late?Plagiocephaly Date: Sunday, January 31, 2010, 8:02 PM my peds really dropped thwe ball,,we started therapy for the tort after he was 6 mos and waited 2 mos to get a neuro appt, so here we are fighting for our insurance to use what we pay toward our deductible,, it is such a mess and i feel like it is too late now for him, his head is soo flat in the back...his face is fine..should i just put the band on now and stop waiting for the ins answers ( they dont cover it anyway) or is it too late for us..anyone see good results with there baby in the moderate catagory? please help..i am struggling with this .. Guest guest
It is absolutely not too late for significant improvement. What it's too late for is quick treatment of only a couple of months. The head is slowing down, but not so much that a little longer in the band won't fix things. With a moderate case at this age, you are probably looking at more like 3 to 6 months, but you never know. Head growth comes in spurts and if you catch a couple of good ones early, then it won't take so long. In contrast, our pediatrician didn't even suggest a helmet until 12.5 months and my daughter was nearly 15 months when she finally got it. She had brachy so this is harder to treat than plagio, but she still got good improvement and I don't regret my decision to band. There are others on this board that banded even later than we did and still got improvement. Anyway, I have no doubt that if my pediatirican had even suggested the band at the 9 month appointment, 's improvement would have been significantly more than it was. , mom to , 29 months STARband grad May 2009 Chiro and CST land getting band at 8 mos..too late? my peds really dropped thwe ball,,we started therapy for the tort after he was 6 mos and waited 2 mos to get a neuro appt, so here we are fighting for our insurance to use what we pay toward our deductible,,it is such a mess and i feel like it is too late now for him, his head is soo flat in the back...his face is fine..should i just put the band on now and stop waiting for the ins answers ( they dont cover it anyway) or is it too late for us..anyone see good results with there baby in the moderate catagory? please help..i am struggling with this .. Guest guest
My son didn't start until 9 month and he was moderate to severe and he saw greater improvement than they even anticipated. On average he saw 9-14 mm improvement. Of course brachy is different and sometimes harder and slower improvement but your son isn't even a year old so it would not have even crossed my mind that this is late On 1/31/10, valleyranchchamps <andiescandies24@...> wrote: > my peds really dropped thwe ball,,we started therapy for the tort after he > was 6 mos and waited 2 mos to get a neuro appt, so here we are fighting for > our insurance to use what we pay toward our deductible,,it is such a mess > and i feel like it is too late now for him, his head is soo flat in the > back...his face is fine..should i just put the band on now and stop waiting > for the ins answers ( they dont cover it anyway) or is it too late for > us..anyone see good results with there baby in the moderate catagory? please > help..i am struggling with this .. > > -- Sent from my mobile device -mommy to Emma, Becca, , and A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty. ~Author Unknown
Guest guest
Hi, As people have said, you should stop waiting for insurance and band ASAP. It is definitely not too late, but the longer you wait to band the slower and less effective the band will be. We started at 12 months with mild/moderate plagio and a little brachy. After 8 months, my son's head is very mild. We are still treating with a helmet, chiro/CST, and osteopathy. We have seen very slow, steady improvement all along. Guest guest
I do not think it is too late. My son is getting his DOC band next week for brachy and he just turned 10 months old. My ped didn't send us earlier either and kept saying it would start rounding out on its own. At his 9 month check up he said to go now since it didn't round out. I wish he would have sent us at 6 months, but I can't go back. I'm just happy he sent us now. At Cranial Tech they showed us before and after pics of babies that started around his age and there was a lot of improvement. I know it may take a little longer, but that's okay. We're still waiting to hear if our insurance covers, but we decided to go ahead either way, thinking the sooner the better. Good luck!
