Jackie, who did you talk to about regarding your teeth? Do they plan to pull them then replace them the same day? See mine have been breaking just like chalk, and I'd have mine pulled in a heart beat.. and put in dentures same day.. I have one of those lovely smiles but the discoloration makes me very uneasy to show someone my smiles... I just don't have the money to have them drawn unless medicare helps me do it.. I'm diabetic, and I live alone 9months of the year my son is in college.. .

Anyway, just thought I'd ask.. I'm glad you are getting out of the living situation that your living in.. you are a stong caring woman.. You take care of you!!

Hugs,

Hell all

Jackie here just checking in to let all know I am ok.

A lot going on in this ones personal life.

My sweet son is getting a divorce from his wonderful wife. So sad. 3 beautiful children involved. My heart is breaking.

The meds I am on, as everyone knows, does a number on the teeth. I finally took the plunge and said Do it Doc. And he did. All gone. Waiting for the replacements. Chose to go without for a few weeks so hopefully they fit well. It has been 6 weeks. ARGH

Looking to get my own place (where it is less controlling). I love the man I am with but I believe he is holding my progress with walking and being independent back. Oh well.

Other than that all is well. Hanging in there and dealing with the trials. I have to.

How all is well with others. Have a wonderful sunny summer.

Medicare pays for it but I chose to go to my Dentist I have been going to since 1974. He doesn't take Medicare so we worked out a plan. I was going to have new ones put in right away but with the loss of bone I had to wait. It wasn't so bad. They healed real good. I get them for keeps Monday. The total cost with pulling, impressions and fittings (and a relining later) cost me $1600.00. I got to try them on this week and except for the bite being off I can say I really like them I can't wait to eat an apple.

Good luck with your teeth. I know here in Wisconsin it is hard to find a Dentist that takes Medicare, or even our own Badger Care. The reimbursement stinks for the docs.

Any way hope it all works out for you.

, is there a dental school nearby, Vanderbilt maybe? It can be a hassle getting in, but you can get the work for a lot less cost. I used to get my dental work done at the Ind. Univ. Dental School, including wisdom teeth. Had great experiences; students were well-supervised. My parents got there dentures there. Dad had his teeth pulled (some cut out, as broken off at gums) & got the dentures several weeks later. Mom wasn't going without teeth for one day; got them pulled & the dentures in right then. She had a local with some valium or something. She didn't seem to have any more pain than my dad, but she was really stoic & he was a drug addict, so hard to compare. Both of them did fine with the fit.

Jackie, you sure have a lot going on. It's hard to understand why two good people can't work things out, especially with 3 kids affected; I empathize with you. I also admire you for wanting to be as independent as possible & stand up for yourself. Good for you!

I was surprised to read that Medicare covered your dentures. I've been told by several dentists that Medicare doesn't cover any dental work, except stuff like replacing a tooth that's knocked out. I read the coverage packet carefully myself & it sounds likes dental isn't covered. Do different states have different rules? I know Medicaid covers dental, but I'm not eligible for Medicaid.

I guess I was wrong. It isn't Medicare that covers the dentures it is a program that Wisconsin has. There are dental clinics going up all over Wisconsin for the low income. It is free to those who qualify however there is again a long waiting list. We do not have enough dentists who handle Medicare. There is one right around the cornor from me that would accept me but I had to walk in first and have a painful tooth ache to get on the list. It is really confusing.

Wisconsin has what is Called Forward/badger care. They, I am told, handle the problem I had but again it takes a long time to be approved and then the waiting list for the available dentist. Sometimes you have to really travel a long distance. And then they can turn you down. So with the help of a very good dentist and a family member we came up with a payment plan that works for me. Sorry for the confusion, I am confused too.

Jackie, don't let anyone hold you back, I use my chair when I need to, but if I can somehow get around it, I do. I was told keep pushing whatever you do, keep pushing, because if you don't use it you will lose it for sure.  There is a fine line between pushing it over the limit, then I pay, but hey that's the price for being mobile right, so keep on trucking.........................

Blessings, Marla
