Vitamins and Chemo

Does anyone have any information to contribute regarding taking the post-WLS

vitamin regimen with chemotherapy?

I have just started chemo (CHOP and Rituxan) - 6 treatments over 18 weeks,

and the oncologist said he did not want me taking vitamins while on chemo. He

did end up okaying it after I explained the importance of the vitamins, but I

am wondering why he didn't want me taking them. I will phone my surgeon next

week, but he had told me that the surgery would not interfere with the chemo.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Elda,

The only thing I can think of is that some natural herbs can

effect the body in such a way that it could be dangerous when having

surgery. Some have a side effect of thinning the blood for example.

People in general tend to put natural herbs in the same classification as

vitamins and don't tell their surgeons/doctors about what exactly they

are taking. If I'm not mistaken, chemo effects the white blood cells so

there may be a correlation there.
