Guest guest
To all of you who have done the infusions, what " type " were they? ==================== Sharon: I have been going to the hematologist twice a week for the past three weeks. First infusion was the longest as they wanted to make sure I didn't have a reaction. Was there approx. 2 hours with a sodium/saline solution being infused with a small dose of iron. Once they saw no reaction they gave me the rest of the infusion. The doc calculated by my blood counts and weight how many infusions I would need to bring me up to normal and his total was 23 infusions. I've had 5 thus far. I've been given the choice of going once a week, which would mean 18 more weeks of going there, or twice a week, which would be nine more weeks. Since I walk in, get my infusion and am out of there in 10-15 minutes, I'm going with the twice a week therapy to get it over with and because of my crazy schedule. He said that either way I choose, it won't affect the outcome of the iron infusions. Also told me that one injection is equal to approximately six months of taking iron orally. He also told me about a calcium supplement that is a yearly injection. We really didn't go into great details about it as I was not feeling that well the first few times I went to see him.
