Guest guest
I would be interested in knowing that too. I was just put on it and have not given it any thought. Dora in Tennessee Lap/Open RNY 9/20/2004 Vanderbilt Hospital Thyroid Medications Hi guys! I have a girlfriend that's interested in having RNY, but she's on thyroid medicine (Levothroid) right now and is worried about how she will take it (ie: dissolving, crushing...) post-op. Have any of you had to deal with this? I figured some of you out there had and wanted to see if you could help answer her question. Thanks! Guest guest
Funny you should mention that . I have been on and off of my thyroid medication. I take Synthroid. Prior to surgery I had been on Synthroid for about 2 years due to my hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Then, when I started going through the process of getting approved for surgery, I had some lab work done and I had to see an endocrinologist. He did some further thyroid studies on me and said that I did not need to be on the Synthroid any longer. So I went off of it. I had my Lap RNY on 3/10/04. 3 months ago and now last week my thryoid levels came back high again, so I am seeing my PCP tomorrow to find out if he wants me to go back on the Synthroid. In the meantime, I called my surgeon's office and let them know that how my labwork came back and asked that if my PCP wants me to go back on the Synthroid, am I able to take it. The surgeon's office said yes. But I'm sure I will find out more tomorrow. I'll let you know of any additional information I find out. in Delaware Lap RNY 3/10/04 261/171/

Guest guest
and Dora: I went to the dr. for my thyroid on friday and he put me back on synthroid, the lowest dosage. he said it should be absorbed in my system, but i need to get my blood work re-done in 2 months to check it out. i know someone else had said already that they had no problems absorbing thyroid medication so it should be fine. my levels were the highest they have ever been this time, but hopefully the medicine will do the trick and i won't feel as fatigued either. julia in delaware lap rny 3/10/04 261/169/
