Hello my Bypass Buddy Friends,

I just got home from an Overeaters Anonymous retreat. I have

been off & on involved in OA for 20+ years but have not gone to

regular meetings for " years " . It is very similar to Alcoholics

Anonymous. My addictive/compulsive personality has caused me to

feel obsessive/compulsive with snacking/dessert type items. Prior

to my gastric bypass surgery I had proved to myself over and over

and over and over again that when it came to sweets I became

progressively compulsive with them and did best when I just plain

didn't eat them or eat between planned meals. After my surgery, I

dabbled in desserts off & on thinking that " I could be like a normal

person " and " eat just a little " . It worked for awhile but not any

more.

Unfortunately, the gastric bypass surgery didn't cure my

underlying eating disorder and sweets addiction. Eating sweets and

lots of carb's tend to set off cravings for MORE for ME. I wish

that it wasn't true! Perhaps you cannot relate to these

feelings. The first 6-9 months after bypass surgery it was fairly

easy to eat small portions and I rarely had a sweet craving. But

the past 9 months it has gotten harder and I can eat so much more

without dumping. I do not want to be like some that gain their

weight back! Gaining 8-10 lbs these past 5 months has been painful

and very frightening. So it's back to basics for me. Overeaters

Anonymous hopefully will help me deal with some of the reasons that

I overate in the first place. I really don't want to go back to OA

meetings but I think that it will help. At least it is free.

Counseling is soo expensive, though I might spring for that also

eventually.

By the way, does anyone know of an " exceptional " counsellor that

is reasonally priced in San Diego? I want my emotional health to

match my thinner body. AND I WANT MY THINNER BODY TO REMAIN THIN!

I hope that you are each doing well. I am grateful for your

sharing of your triumphs & struggles since gastric bypass surgery.

I feel like we're a family, here to support one another with people

who REALLY understand.
