Guest guest
Hi guys-- I just realized that my kid who has no immunity to strep and has PANDAS is eating the yogurt which has S. thermophilus in it. But I read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streptococcus_thermophilus and I interpret this to mean that the strep helps to ferment the milk but is destroyed in the stomach. What do you think? Guest guest
Terry, from what I have read at Pecanbread and other forums for moms, most PANDAS moms or even just strep overgrowth moms avoid the S. thermophilus. > > Hi guys-- > > I just realized that my kid who has no immunity to strep and has PANDAS is eating the yogurt which has S. thermophilus in it. Guest guest
Thanks Dawn--I think I'll have to do some more research on this. I read that S. Thermophilus is used in all everyday fermented milk products including cheese. It is destroyed by stomach acid. I'll have to consult w/ his PANDAS doc. Guest guest
Thanks Mara-- I'll look for it. In the meantime I bought some acidophilus capsules for him and I'll have to do some research. The Erivan looks like the kind of yogurt we grew up with, with the cream on top. Guest guest
I'm wondering if we can find it at Whole foods. I also think I can just give him the Erivan and not necessarily have to make yogurt for him as he really doesn't have any gut issues ( thank god!) But I will ask my Dad to look for it. Thanks. > >> > >>> > >>> > >>> Hi guys-- > >>> > >>> I just realized that my kid who has no immunity to strep and has PANDAS is eating the yogurt which has S. thermophilus in it. Guest guest
What is the consistency of this yogurt, thick or thin? I always though that you needed S. Thermophilus and L. Bulgaricus for it turn to into yogurt. You learn something new everyday! Guest guest
I bought the Erivan today and Jay likes it--but I had to add sweetener to it for him, whereas he just eats SCD yogurt plain with a little vanilla. He has started to have diarrhea so I ordered some probiotics from Custom Probiotics for him and I will be ordering the lauricidin after talking to the head of the company, the son of the founder of lauricidin. Hope this all helps! Thanks for everyone's input. Terry
