One way that spammers can get email addresses is when people send a message or forward a joke, etc. with all the addresses visible. I've gotten many forwarded jokes or stories with several sets of email addresses on them. When you forward something, delete all those other addresses. Also, if I'm sending something to people who are unknown to each other, I only put one address in the To: box & use Bcc (blind carbon copy) for the rest. I actually have an inactive address that I use; the message will come back as undelivered to that one, but everyone else will get it. If I'm sending something to a group that knows each other, like family members or mutual friends, I just list them all in the main box. Please take the couple of minutes to delete those other email addresses & use Bcc. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

In the past several days, we have been getting spam messages from members whose email address has been hijacked. The spammers have forged email headers of members and sent out spam emails with a link . The members are NOT sending these messages. The moderators are trying to catch these messages and delete them as much as we can. However, if a member is NOT moderated, then the message will come through the list. One of our mods was attacked like this in the past and she was banned from another list -- not ours... It was a mess and hard to get straightened out. This is very dangerous as the links sent are usually viruses. PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY OF THESE LINKS.

I have contacted Yahoo and they say there is really no way to catch these spammers. It happens when the spammers forge a person's email address and it is called "spoofing". Yahoo recommends that we moderate all members -(including owners and moderators) for awhile to see if this will hopefully pass. I have encountered three of the spoofed email addresses so far and have banned them. These members will have to rejoin under a new email address. I hated to do that, but we have no choice! We have 600+ members to protect and this is the only way.

I am going to moderate the whole list at the present time and hopefully this will pass away soon. Please be careful.......

Wishing you all the best in health and happiness. We (mods and owners) really do care about each and every one of you and that is why we are here......taking time to check out the list; answer questions; listen when you need to vent; etc. Please know this and know that we are only moderating everyone until this passes.

Thanks Darlene, I got one of those and reported it as spam, I can't remember who it came from.  But I'm glad you checking these out, as you know so much more then I do. Hope your up to it, if not let me know what I can do to help.

You and Rose are doing an excellent job, I'm still not up to par, I think it will take till my next Remicade to feel caught up, at least I hope so. Thanks agian,Marla

Great Idea Rose, I usually do that too, sometimes there's like 2 pages of email address, I use Bcc a lot too.  Thanks for all your great work Rose.   I know I haven't been around much, I'm trying to get back into the grove here.
