Hi gang! Hope some of you remembers me. LOL It's been a long time since I

posted. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. We did.

Ben...I can share my story with you since I am one of those that had both ears

done at the same time. I can understand you are having second thoughts. So did

I. It's scary, breathtaking scary for me. I had no usable hearing in either ear

and still the closer the surgery date came the more I had second thoughts. I

didn't think I would be able to communicate those 4 weeks without any hearing. I

didn't know if the CI would even work with my hearing history.

History in a nutshell, I was born with a hearing loss in both ears, lipreading

by 4th grade. Hated the phone!! One hearing aid in high school (hated it and

didn't wear it if I could sneak it off without Mom knowing) and bilateral

hearing aids in 1983 (what a difference!). In 2001, somewhere close to

Thanksgiving, I went to work one morning and realized I couldn't hear my crane

horn or the buzzers on my tanks going off. I'd lost what little hearing I had

overnight due to infections.

I loved my bilateral hearing aids when I first got them and when the decision

came for which ear to implant in 2002 I kept remembering what a difference

bilateral hearing made. That is why I choose to have both ears done. I was lucky

to be in the test trials for bilateral CIs. When I walked out of the doctor's

office, I felt relieved and knew I made the right decision for me. Yet, the

closer the surgery date came the more nervous I became. My sister was my

strenght and stood by me throughout the whole journey. She kept reminding me,

" What do you have to lose? " . I still dreaded being deaf between surgery and

hookup. I was surprised the day after surgery I could still communicate. I could

still " hear " with  my eyes as good as I did the day before surgery. I really

didn't lose anything.

I didn't understand any speech at hookup but I did on the second day mapping. It

took me months to be able to use the phone well and about 9 months to understand

my first sentence at work without lipreading (very noisy). I'd been working at

Bon-L about 25 years at that time and could never do that before.

I've had my CIs for almost 6 years now. I think the best ear helped train the

bad ear. I worked with one and then the other, then both at the same time. I was

starved for sound and worked hard listening to tapes and following along with

the books. Later I used the phone using 800 numbers with recordings and music.

It was worth it and I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. Good luck on your

journey and keep us posted.

 Dilemma

Hello gang, at the risk of everyone receiving this twice, I wanted to  resend

since I may have used a wrong address on the first one.

Thanks for all the good information and holiday cheer from the forum. Its

truly heart warming and wonderful

Here is my dilemma. I am set for bilateral CI surgery on 1/16.   Incredibly,

the insurance carrier allowed my request to do both at the same  time.  I use

two hearing aids but can function somewhat, not great, with  the right side.

The left is gone.

Now I am having second thoughts.  My concers are: a) I can still  function

somewhat with the right and need to communicate post surgery and in the  dead

period before mapping, B) it may take a while to grasp the new way of  hearing

and this would let me communicate then, too, and c) it may be  overhwhelming to

rehab both at one time.  I can always have the second one  later this year

without much hassle since its been approved.

Can the good folks here let me know your thoughts?  All are welcome  and

appreciated.  Have a Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

It's your signature. I would cross of anything you don't agree with and

1 hour away is not that bad all things considered. If close lady will not

allow you to cross out and objects to that (I would not ask, I would just do

Did you see any bubbles or foam when you mixed? Did you shake it at any time?

Hi all, I been mostly a lurker, but here's my dilemma and I so appreciate anyand all responses on this. I have been on VLCD for about 16 days now and havelost approximately 15 pounds. Yay for me. However, I was pretty much hungrythe entire time. I started my dosing at 200 then went to 150 and stuck withthat for a while, all the while in the back of my mind thinking and wandering ifI had good HCG. Continued on track and was happy with my weight loss. I thenhad a really bad day and ended up cheating because I was so hungry. Iunderstand that on HCG you're not supposed to be hungry. So, after my cheat, Igot back on track for a couple days and dropped what I had gained. Then decidedto drop my dose again to 125 thinking maybe that would help the hunger. No suchluck and ended up cheating again yesterday and today. My question is...whatshould I do from this point. I have an un-made batch, should I wait a few

dayswith no injections and then start again with a new batch? Should I continueinjections from new batch without interruption? I'm frustrated because I don'twant to un-do everything I've done, but can't keep injecting, chating, andgaining. I have been drinking all my water and tea. I loaded like a mother. I'm simply hungry. Help please!

I was pretty careful, but was very nervous mixing because it was my first batch

so there may have been a few bubbles. I am going to mix a new batch just to be

sure! Is this correct?

5000 iu/150= 33.33 ml/2= 16.67 ml for a .5 on syringe (29 gauge insulin syringe)

Just double checking but i think that's correct! :)

back before I knew about "bubbles" causing HCG to be not effective, I had already been thru 2 rounds with it, and was totally effective. My thought is that if the preg test is NEGATIVE... then its not a good batch period.... the idea wasn't to test exactly how effective that hcg batch would be.

That will tell you if it is real hCG, but not whether it is potent. hCG damaged by mixing in a way that produces bubbles or foam will still test positive, but might not be potent for our purposes any longer.

I would go and get a cheap pregnancy test to check to see if your current batch of HCG is good first. Then we'll see where to go from there.

Your calculations for 150 IU per .5ml dose are correct. However, I have had better results with the 125 IU dose as far as hunger. However, if you are using syringe needles that are short, depending upon your injection site and density of fat there, you might not reach muscle. If you are actually reaching only the fat, then the dose might need to be more to provide 125 IU usable to your body, since the blood vessels are in the muscle, not the fat and therefore less is absorbed when injecting into fat.

Agreed, if you get a negative, then it's no good. Just wanted to point out that a positive might not indicate that it is working optimally.

I too have been hungry pretty much the entire time. I felt like my muscles

ached and I was weak. For hunger I drank a ton of tea (iced tea and warm tea)

that along with plenty of water took alot of it away. The cravings have NOT

gone away. I have cheated a few times, extra melba toast, extra strawberries,

etc. I even had a little cool whip sugar free, I understand your pain. My

husband who has done it with me, has basically had no hunger and no issues,

lucky him! He doesnt even have muscle aches. The entire time aside from

maybe a few days my muscles have ached and I have had constipation. I have

followed everyone's guidance, take magnesium, potassium etc. Unfortunatley it

hasn't really benefited me but i am 10 lbs lighter can I really complain? I

did it for 30 days and only lost 10 lbs. Hang in there ..... drink more tea

or coffee they do work as appetite suppresants :) michelle

  • 1 month later...

I have a dilemma this week that is really bothering me. I had a picture study of my daughter's head on Tuesday. The results were amazing. She has made tremendous progress. A few things I still notice are 1) the ear asymmetry 2) the torticullis and 3) a little bulging on the upper left side of her head. Overall, I am so pleased with the results, however, CT wants to put her in a second band. Initially I was for it, as it can't hurt and I don't want to regret not banding later.

Thursday she had her monthly Physical Therapy appointment. I brought in the photo study pictures/results from Tuesday to show the PT. He was really impressed as well. Then I told him that CT wants a second band. He was shocked. He said if it was his daughter, he would not do it. The current look of the torticullis in the pictures is a result of an ear infection this week. He said her neck muscle isn't even tight and the torticullis is almost gone. Also, this why the ear asymmetry in the pictures is so significant. He is having us take pictures of her every day for 2 weeks to make sure there is only a slight tilt and not extreme like the pictures indicated. The bulging area on the top of her head is an area that isn't even covered by the band. Therefore, he suggested that it would be silly to get another band and to spend all that money. Now I am second

guessing everything again.

Paige is 8 months old. She has been in the band for 3 months. I will try and figure out how to post pictures.

Thanks for all of your responses (ahead of time).
