Dear Char,

I wish I could give you some information, I am a surgical nurse, but I

have not yet had my mandibular advancement like you. At least you are

so close. How long have you been in your braces? I heard for the

first three weeks per my OS that you are pretty miserable with

swelling, discomfort, but after that you should be okay. Are you going

to have a splint in place post-operatively, and if so for how long?

That might be hard to do if you are going on a trip where you do not

have your blender available. Good luck,

Marci

Hi Marci, thanks for the replies.

Ive been in braces for 16 months, and sld get them off 2 months

after my op! Fingers crossed xxx

I am wearing a splint, which i am having fitted nxt week, so i will

be able to find out how long i need to wear it for, etc.

We do have power drinks, here, although i dunno about what brands we

have, ill have to look in to that!

Thanks again

Char :)

Hi Char

I had surgery on June 6th and this coming Thursday I am flying back

home to Italy from NYC. I'll be 3 weeks and 2 days post-op and I am

feeling very much up to it so I don't think you'll have a problem going

on holiday to Egypt, especially if your doctor told you it would be ok.

The only thing I would keep in mind is that you WILL tire more easily

and you won't necessarily be able to eat a lot of the stuff in Egypt

because you'll likely still be on a soft diet. In terms of recovery it

takes the bone between 6 to 8 weeks to heal properly but it can take

much less to feel better mentally and physically. I feel miles better

than I did even just a week ago. Last night I went out to a club with

my friends. I only lasted a couple of hours but still I made it out.

You'll likely also still be a little swollen as well. Most of my

swelling has gone but I am still quite puffy around the area where the

titatanium plates were put in my jaw.

Anyway, all this to say that I think you'll be able to enjoy your

holiday in Egypt without a problem. Maybe bring some power drinks with

you from England just as a back up in case they don't have anything in

Egypt. I can tell you that you'll be able to eat yummy houmous there. I

ate it the other night with my splint still in. Delish!

Take care,

Sara
