It was such a pleasure (NOT!) to sit among the 12-year- olds doing the same things that I was, with my graying hair. But I did try to play their video games in the ortho's office -- never could talk one of them into showing me how, though! Not to worry. Nobody else cares about what's in your mouth, really. Nor why you're doing it. If they're your friends, they'll trust your judgment. If not, forget 'em.
