Guest guest
It happened, my coconut ice cream is turning into ice crystals in the freezer.I read in the Mark's Apple forum that Ball Freezer Jars are the cure for this. Some people even put the freezer jar in a Ziploc bag. I'm going to give these a try. Has anyone tried freezing glass jars this way and having luck with it?BTW, I'm not totally happy with 1 Tbsp of finely ground coffee in the ice cream, so I might tray boiling down some dripped coffee and trying that. Is instant coffee illegal because of the probable chemicals added to the coffee to make it? It looks like a pretty lengthy process.just make a little bit of really, really strong coffee and use that. like a coffee extract, severaltimes normal strength. finely ground coffee in the ice cream - yuck on the texture. Guest guest
I have Ball and Ziploc freezer jars, no crystals. Work great. I also store in a freezer baggie if I think there is any potential of leakage. Don't fill the jar all the way to the top or it may run over a little when it's freezer. It's a twist on top. I kind of like ziploc better but the plastic isn't as thick as Ball. The lid is just more secure. I use them to freeze smoothies, all sizes--mostly 32oz. Glass jars--bad idea. Had the bottom fall out earlier this year on a frozen jar (but I could be the only person who doesn't know about freezing glass jars ;-)). Debbie 41 cd Btw, I bought freezer boxes, Ball jars, ziploc jars all at Wal-Mart--din't use the net. They were just over 2.00 for two containers. Guest guest
Thanks for the tips. I definitely won't use glass in the freezer, then.-- I have Ball and Ziploc freezer jars, no crystals. Guest guest
Thanks. It looks like vanilla bean, but isn't, just gritty, yuck. Tastes good though.I'll try the coffee concentrate, instead :>)-- It happened, my coconut ice cream is turning into ice crystals in the freezer.I read in the Mark's Apple forum that Ball Freezer Jars are the cure for this. Guest guest
I always use glass ball jars for my tomato sauce and salsa. I freeze soup in them also. They should be hot or even warm when you put them in the freezer so I put them in the fridge first and then the freezer. I've never had a problem. Katy Thanks for the tips. I definitely won't use glass in the freezer, then. -- ____________________________________________________________SECRET: Macbook for 23.86!Find out what eBay has been HIDING from you now!ctips.net
Guest guest
Sorry for all the typos in the original post--tiny net notebook excuse again. The jar was thawing when the bottom dropped out. It could have been too full, it did have a thick kitchen towel underneath it so I actually saw it before I picked it up. It's like the bottom of a shoe falling out. I'm sure they are probably safe, I just probably won't use glass in the freezer again. The idea of eating chips of glass...but the large Ball plastic containers and freezer boxes work for me. I finally found plastic tops since my metal jar rings kept rusting out so at least I can store refrigerated or dry items in the jars. Has anyone seen the new yogurt maker at DW? Awesome, any size jar can go in it--or several to make yogurt. Really would simplify the process. I'll get one after hurricane season.
