Guest guest
Hi, It sounds like you are having the same surgery that I had. I also debated whether I should get the surgery or not because my overbite wasn't affecting me that much, although my orthodonist said it could in the future - but I decided to just go for it. So far I definitely think it is worth it. I was really fortunate in having an extremely successful surgery and pain-wise I thought getting my wisdom teeth out was much worse. The liquid diet isn't as bad as I thought - and even though I lost 3 lbs with the surgery I now am 2lbs heavier than I was before the surgery!! (this is good for me because I am 5'6 105lbs). Talking is obviously a little difficult since I am banded shut, but if you just close your teeth and try to talk you will see that it is quite easy to understand - no one has any trouble understanding me. Swelling wise I am almost back to normal too. So you asked how long you should take off for work/school. I would say I was low on energy for about 5 days, I pretty much just sat on the couch and watched TV or read a book. Currently though, I am totally fine energy-wise and actually I started working 4 hrs a day in a medical lab 12 days after my surgery and I am doing fine with that. I also think that if I had class I would be able to go and study and be fine with that too (although UCSD doesn't start until Sept. 22 so I have a while for that). So I would say that if everything is sucessful and went well give yourself 2 weeks off and you will be fine. If you have any other questions you can email me or post here and if you have AIM we could talk on that too. Hope this helps!
