Guest guest
Hi All, I've been on SCD for 10 months, my diagnosis is Crohn's and Leaky Gut Sndydrome. I am not currently taking any meds. I responded to the diet very well over the months and then after Easter I began to slowly go downhill. I have been tired, weak, fatigued, dizzy, can't concentrate, sad, unmotivated, emotional, etc. I slowly feel as if I am coming out of this; however, my GI did a whole load of tests. The amino acid test came back today and the NP called to tell me that I am deficient in many of my amino acids. Their suggestion is to go to the health food store and pick up a amino acid supplement. That is all the info I received. Can anyone explain amino acids to me, I googled it and am overwhelmed with all the scientific terms and what not? Can anyone reccomend a SCD legal amino acid supplement? Thanks, Holly O. Crohn's 5/09 SCD 9/1/09 no meds
Guest guest
Holly, Aminos are what make up protein. In other words, the protein you eat breaks down into aminos for the body to use. They are (or should be) pretty pure and the ones I've gotten so far from several places have just contained the aminos. When I had twenty years with literally NO protein in my life, I took a combo of 20 aminos, plus lysine that I have to have extra of, some inborn thing, I guess. Now I don't take the 20-combo. I've had good luck with JoMar Laboratories, in particular, and I think NOW brand supplements seems to be pretty pure. I can find a phone number for you for JoMar if you like. However, I hope you have some more information from your test than just " go to the health food store and get some aminos " ! I would insist on a copy of the test results so you know exactly which ones you are low in, and can work accordingly on those. The doctor may well have meant you should get a supplement with the essential aminos, which are the ones the human body cannot just make. We have to have the raw ingredients from food and the digestion has to be working right, of course, to do this. So he might have meant that. But you could be running low on others, too, and I think it would be best to find out exactly what you need.
