Guest guest Posted June 22, 2005 Report Share Posted June 22, 2005 The only insurance coverage I got was for my orthodontic work and then the province covered the surgery and hospital expenses. I had to pay a grand or so out of pocket for the surgeon's office before the surgery but that covered the x-rays before and after, him playing with the models and planning stuff out. It also covered all my post-op visits and the elastics I got from their office. Never heard of insurance covering for days off work but if they do then I hope you get at least two week's worth (enough time to get a tan while the swelling goes down)! > Hello, > > Just a quick questions to the Canadians on this forum and insurance > coverage. > > I have collective insurance from Manulife and I am having a hard time > getting a pre-approval from them before the surgery is done and the > claim forms are sent in. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2005 Report Share Posted June 22, 2005 Hiya! I live in BC and was not able to get any coverage for the surgery. MSP pays for the hospital, but I pay for the surgeon and anesthesiologist. I am having upper, lower and genio at $4800. Its a good price because the other surgeon who does this in BC would have cost $9000. He's just a little more famous for his work. My guys been at it for 15 years, so I am not worried a bout his ability. I spoke to my Surgeon's office and they said that they havew never had a client get covered for the surgery. I'm sorry if this is bad news. It might just be a BC thing though. Keep trying. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2005 Report Share Posted June 22, 2005 My husband has Manulife insurance (group insurance from his employment). Perhaps you could call the toll free number and speak to one of their representives. I call many times for info on his coverage. If you have short term disability, I cannot see why they would not cover you. Short term covers illness, accident, any medical reason you are unable to work. This surgery is not considered cosmetic here in Canada, so I can't see you being turned down. Your employer should be able to help you find answers as well. My husband was off for five months following a subarachnoid hemorrhage from a ruptured brain aneurysm four years ago. I was given forms to be filled by his surgeon, and then sent them to his employer to be forwarded to Manulife. I must say that for longer term absences they can be nasty. They have you fill out forms often, I am sure to discourage you to return to work sooner. My husbands surgeon was in London (a distance away from our home) were the surgery took place and it was a bother getting forms filled. Eventually he returned to work after five months instead of the year requested by his doctor. In your case you may be talking weeks rather than months, so I doubt they would give you that much trouble. Good luck. Cathy P.S. You should have a person in charge of your insurance at Manulife, this is the person who will be able to answer all your questions. Get to know him or her, and hopefully they will be able to help. - In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " rvm.geo " <robmasciotra@h...> wrote: > Hello, > > Just a quick questions to the Canadians on this forum and insurance > coverage. > > I have collective insurance from Manulife and I am having a hard time > getting a pre-approval from them before the surgery is done and the > claim forms are sent in. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2005 Report Share Posted June 22, 2005 Hi, Thanks to all that have answered so far. Unfortunately my Insurance company does not want to help me until I provide the disability forms, which it seems I won't have until the surgery is done! But overall, to all the post-oppers here who have insurance (either private or collective), are you getting compensation for being off work for a number of weeks? Or are you just taking the time off with no pay and hoping to return to work as soon as possible? THANKS! Guest guest Posted June 22, 2005 Report Share Posted June 22, 2005 I have Standard Life as my insurance provider and they covered 200$ for my pre-op/post-op care (out of the 2400 my surgeon charged). I was lucky enough to have my time off work covered by my company as sick days and have been working from home for the last 5 weeks, so I've been off work 7 weeks now. However I did have the predetermination sent to my insurance company, and they were willing to cover the time off as short term disability. > > Hello, > > > > Just a quick questions to the Canadians on this forum and insurance > > coverage. > > > > I have collective insurance from Manulife and I am having a hard time > > getting a pre-approval from them before the surgery is done and the > > claim forms are sent in. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2005 Report Share Posted June 22, 2005 Hi RVM, this is normal for disability claims with group insurance providers. You will have to wait for your surgery and get all the paper work filled out. However rest assured if your policy covers short term disability you have nothing to worry about. It will take two weeks or so for them to process it after your surgery and you will get compensated (It's only 60% of your net pay though). > > > Hello, > > > > > > Just a quick questions to the Canadians on this forum and > > insurance > > > coverage. > > > > > > I have collective insurance from Manulife and I am having a hard > > time > > > getting a pre-approval from them before the surgery is done and > > the > > > claim forms are sent in. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2005 Report Share Posted June 22, 2005 the surgery in Canada is no where nearly as expensive as it is in the states. the hospital time is covered by OHIP in ontario, the only thing you pay for are the extra specialist fees and the anesthetic treatment fees. including braces and the surgery, i spent about 9 thousand. which is dirt cheap compared to the tens of thousands americans pay. yikes!

& nbsp;

derrick

& gt;From: & quot;rvm.geo & quot; & lt;robmasciotra@... & gt;
& gt;Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;To: orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] Re: To Canadians - Insurance Coverage?
& gt;Date: Wed, 22 Jun 2005 18:32:43 -0000
& gt;
& gt;Hi,
& gt;
& gt;Thanks to all that have answered so far. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2005 Report Share Posted June 22, 2005 I'm in Ontario too, but I didn't have to pay anaesthesia treatment, just for the out-of-hospital visits to my surgeon (C$1,200). As if it's an option - would they have foregone the anaesthesia if you hadn't paid??? It's an amazing deal, agreed! > the surgery in Canada is no where nearly as expensive as it is in the > states. the hospital time is covered by OHIP in ontario, the only thing you > pay for are the extra specialist fees and the anesthetic treatment fees. > including braces and the surgery, i spent about 9 thousand. which is dirt > cheap compared to the tens of thousands americans pay. yikes!
