Guest guest
Hi, There was a thread on this recently for the Starband that I started. So you may want to look back through the messages. I think the conclusion was that there was no indication the band would cause asymmetry in the cheeks. I am still not 100% convinced. However, I'm comfortable enough that the band is probably not causing cheek asymmetry that I'm continuing with the band. One thing good for us is that our ortho shaved out more than usual the last visit, since he thought the band was on the verge of becoming too tight. (I don't think it was just recent growth, but an accumulation. The band was slowly becoming tighter since there had been more growth than shavings for awhile.) He also adjusted the piece against the cheek since 's head is round enough that the holding point is not as crucial and a little rotation won't hurt. So, I'm feeling more at ease about the cheek. Orthos don't seem to take the complaint too seriously, but to me the cheekbones shouldn't be the holding points. My daughter had a starband and the sideburns helped keep the band from slipping, but weren't putting pressure on her face as far as I could ever tell. I would push your ortho to take some pressure off this area. Hopefully some parents who experienced this will respond too and let you know if this resolved over time. -christine sydney, 4 yrs, starband grad > > I have 8 month old twins and they've both been in Hanger bands for 2 months now. Guest guest
I honestly don't know for sure. Towards the end, 's STARband pushed a little on her left cheek. There don't seem to be any lasting effects from this. Her cheeks seem fine now. It didn't happen until the end though, so I'm not sure whether it was because it was getting tight in this area. She didn't complain and didn't have red spots so we let it go. Re: Pushing on cheekbones I have seen both hanger and starband parents complain about cheekbones. Guest guest
my son has a Hanger band, and I have just recently noticed the cheek areas to be getting red but I am guessing that the band is getting too tight, as we have had it off more than normal due to being on vacation (MIL taking it off) anyway we are almost done with it so I'm going to either have it adjusted when we return or just keep it off. so to answer your concern, I do not think it should be getting red there or having too much pressure in the cheeks. le 8mos From: <melanie.watson@...>Subject: Re: Re: Pushing on cheekbonesPlagiocephaly Date: Thursday, January 21, 2010, 4:52 AM I honestly don't know for sure.
