Guest guest
We were exactly in your boat. even had the same insurance (MDIPA). At that time, only Hanger was in network. We ended up going with Star Cranial in Columbia and had a wonderful experience. I started investigating Hanger after being told it might be covered, but they were talking about up to a month to get in the helmet. After recommendations from the group, I also investigated CT, but they were talking about a week in a half before they could even get me in for the consult. Plus, they told me that, due to her age, they would most likely recommend stopping after 4 months. Since we'd already had our consult at Star Cranial, I could get in later that week for the repeat scan and get the band 7 days later. Plus, our cranial doctor had recommended Star Cranial. So, we paid out of pocket for the STARband at Star Cranial. It was 2800 for self-pay at that time. They do give a discount if insurance doesn't cover your band. It was 3500 if you had insurance coverage. I believe that the price has gone up a little because my coworker paid a little more than that. had (has) brachy, but wasn't treated until later (almost 15 months). For her age, we got wonderful correction. I've attached some before and after shots so that you can see for yourself. She went from 95 percent down to 92.2 percent, but she had to wear it the full six months due to her age. We dealt with Plank, who was the only ortho there at the time. There is now a there as well. I didn't have any dealings with her, but I have a coworker who is working with her. Her son is 7 months old and went from 15.5 mm down to 7.9 mm in six weeks. He also had some irritation in his skin due to growth that was dealt with by shaving off more of the band. I believe that the issue was resolved satisfactorily. My coworker is very pleased with the improvement. They go to the office every two weeks for adjustments and get scanned every third visit. I believe that this is the protocal for younger babies. It's a small office, smaller than the CT (we went there for a consult after graduated from her STARband), but all that they do is STARbands, so it is their speciality (just like CT). I've even read online somewhere that 's own baby wore a STARband so she understands things from a parent perspective as well. She does believe (as many STARband providers do), that bands are really only effective up to 18 months, but she respected my wishes to keep the band on for the full six months. was 20.5 months old when she graduated. If you baby is younger, then this won't even apply to you. Feel free to ask me any more specific questions that you may have. , mom to , 28 months STARBand grad May 2009 Chiro and CST land Re: Hanger in Bethesda/Reston Star Cranial Center/Starband in Columbia, MD Hi Ramona, Welcome to the group. Guest guest
I am not in your area but have been a group member since 2002. I have heard great things about both STAR Cranial in Columbia and CT. I am not familiar with the Hanger. Hopefully others in your area will chime in. Guest guest
Thank you so much for responding to my post. We have decided to go with Star Cranial Center and use the starband. Hanger in Reston is perfectly fine, but in the end I feel more comfortable with Star Cranial. Now, I just hope this process get moving....
