Guest guest
Is that 5 gms of sugar the total for the day or just at one time? I am only 12.5 months post op and about 10 pounds from goal. Trying to figure out how to live the rest of my life without gaining any weight back! Janet M. Guest guest
Hi , I have always heard of 1.5 yr window of opportunity. I do not know the mechanics behind that. Maybe someone on this list does know. Regardless of these mechanics, you have a tool that will continue to work if you develop the right habits. Maybe folks lose their weight easier or mostly during that 1.5 yr window..but you will lose it if you eat right and use the tool right. So don't worry about that. It just may mean you have to work harder if you are outside that window. I have also been divorced, right before surgery. It is definitely a mourning process. Oh and feel free to eat your peanut butter. I dunno what I'd do without it. Carbs are our enemies especially white flour based carbs, GOOD fats are ok. Fruits are ok..but really need to be in moderation as there are sugars and some are better than others. Can look up their glycemic index online anywhere doing a search. The ones lower on the glycemic index are better for you. Non starchy Vegetables are more important though to try to get in. The High glycemic veg and fruits are not necessarily " bad " for you but they are suppose to me once a week type of thing as opposed to a " staple " in a diet which is daily. Just a few pointers as you read through these and gather your info: 1) get in your water (this will help BIG time in the elimination of fat and stuff) 2) get in your protein (proxies 60 to 90ish, distals >120grams). Find a GOOD protein shake you will like. Go the sample route imo... www.vitalady.com has samples to try. Not sure if you are a member of the protein group here: yahoo groups: OSSG-protein 3) get in your vitamins - calcium as calcium citrate and b12 as a shot or under the tongue (sublingual) Lots of info out there. You can join: yahoo groups OSSG-vitamins-minerals to get more info. Has a lot in the archives. 4) keep your carb usage to good carbs. You most likely won't really crave them if your protein is high enough...atleast my cravings go down considerably. I use good carbs for fillers and nutrition.] My favorite site of the week: http://aboutmso.com/ep/establishedpatients.cfm I liked the Achieving Good Health area. Remember, you are not going to be good over night. Do not spend time beating yourself up if you fall down. Get right back up on that horse with the next meal (that is where protein shakes help me). It will take some time before this become habit enough to do it without thinking too much. Sherra new to group > Hi Everyone, > > My name is and I'm new to this group. I live in northern Alabama. Guest guest
Hi everybody! My name is and my 17 year old daughter will be have orthognathic surgery in two weeks. We are so ready, yet, very nervous! Any advice that you may have would be terrific. We don't really know what to expect for a recovery period. She will be having a mandibular split. The surgeon expects a 2-5 day hospitalization. Any thoughts?
Guest guest
Welcome. Best thought: Get her reading around on this site. But bear in mind, both, that mandibular split (and I presume advancement) is easier by a whole lot than maxillar cuts. She should do fine, unless she has some underlying complications. I had an easy surgery, an easy recovery, and hope she will do likewise. It's not unusual to have a lot of numbness post-op. I was fortunate. I think it's probably unusual to have as much bruising as I did -- but hey -- that doesn't hurt and goes away quickly. No biggie there. Best of wishes to you both. Don't try to chew, move around too much, too soon. But don't sit in a lump, either. Exercise, water both help the healing.
