Hi Misha,

Well you are nursing a 3 month old and have 2 little kids. When mine were that

age I was in a constant fog. I think you are changing your diet while also going

through all the hormonal changes after childbirth and nursing an infant. It

would be hard to pinpoint which is which.

Die off would be a possibility, along with a gut-brain connection. Starting SCD

was really emotional for me. I spent a lot of time cooking and also wondering if

I would ever get some of my favorite foods back. I was able to add coffee back

after 10-11 months on SCD, but you may be able to do this sooner.

The one thing that stands out from your food list is not many fruits or

vegetables. They are a good source of healthy carbs for energy (you have cut out

a lot of carbs with SCD) and fiber which helps with stools.

I started out with cooked, peeled, seeded fruits and vegetables, and even pureed

them if I did not tolerate them at first.

These are what I tolerated right away: very ripe bananas, cooked apples and

cooked apples and pears together, and baked acorn squash with butter and honey

on it. I was also able to tolerate nut butters fairly early, and a good one was

putting pecans in a food processor and grinding them until they were smooth and

buttery. A great dessert was dripped SCD yogurt with banana or cooked apples and

nut butter. I actually had to cut back because of weight gain on this, but it is

a good energy source for nursing.

Try adding these slowly and also eating more frequently with nursing because it

takes a lot out of you. SCD was a cyclic thing for me with generally

(thankfully) an upward trend, but the beginning involves a lot of changes and

takes getting used to.

Not just to my posts, but for everyone's, it is really great. I don't

think I could do this without all your support, so thank

you!

That's what we're here for!

If you have a small one, it would be easy not to, but I strongly

recommend keeping a food diary, writing down everything you eat, and what

the results, gut-wise and how you feel generally are. It's amazing how

much better paper and pencil is at happing you spot trends than our

notoriously unreliable memories. Especially when dealing with brain

fog!

Yes, I've been keeping a religious food diary since 5/30 of this year (so before I started SCD): everything in and everything out, also whether I exercise and for how long, etc. I've done this in the past and wasn't ever able to detect any consistent patterns, but I also wasn't following SCD and was not very methodical about eating only certain foods for several days at a time and then adding only one food at a time. So we'll see if this one reveals anything!
