Guest guest
Hey Ya'll.. So my acupuncturist thinks he figured out why my immune health and hormonal system is all wonky. This includes the basic building block of my adrenal function. For many many years I have had very low cholesterol levels- only when I was on Prednisone long term my levels went up due to weight gain probably. I eat a lot of cholesterol rich foods and my numbers are still low. Doc's over the years just basically nixed my questions about LDL and HDL because they said " your numbers are great- no heart disease in your future " I have read literature since starting the SCD and realized the whole fat/cholesterol phobia is a complete myth. And if the only focus is heart health- why don't they look at the bigger picture and take an example as to how things are structured in nature. I could not tolerate many fats and still can't tolerate too much but heck.. I'm a lot better than I used to be. Does anyone know how I can get my numbers up? I think this would be key for me. Guest guest
Hi Jodi-- Actually eating Cholesterol (CHL) rich foods is fine--our bodies are meant to handle that. Why our CHL rises is due to the excessive carbs in our diet, so, you may want to increase your carbs. CHL production is also tied to the liver, so taking supplements that support healthy liver function might help. The misconception is that we get high CHL from diet, when most of our CHL is manufactured by the liver. What is your CHL level, if you don't mind me asking? Some people are genetically blessed w/ low CHL, no matter what they eat. CHL alone does not tell the whole picture.....triglycerides, LDL and HDL ARE important in understanding your whole picture, whether high or low. I have read extensively on this.....there are some books out there to help w/ understanding. Why do you feel you have to raise your CHL? Is it pathologically low? Guest guest
Jodi, I'm not sure what you are saying here. What did your acupuncturist figure out? That your immune health is related to your low cholesterol levels? Mara > Hey Ya'll.. > So my acupuncturist thinks he figured out why my immune health and hormonal system is all wonky. Guest guest
Heya Terry, My values haven't been checked in over a year but after reviewing tests over a few years my HDL, LDL and Triglycerides are chronically low- they all hover in either below normal low to low. I eat plenty of cholesterol rich foods. Why do carbs play an important role, and which carbs? Also which supplements are you thinking about for liver health? The only time my values are normal is when I am on long term Prednisone. Not sure what my current CHL is. Gonna have blood work next week. How can I know if it is pathologically low? You can email me offlist jodah235@.... Jodi > > Hi Jodi-- > > Actually eating Cholesterol (CHL) rich foods is fine--our bodies are meant to handle that. Guest guest
Mara, It was a bit late last night (had this rockin' iced Kyoto coffee a little too late in the afternoon in burg- totally bothered my sleep) Anyway, what my acu was explaining to me is that cholesterol is like this building block of life (I've read WAPF's work as well as McBrides work on heart health, Good Calories Bad Calories and a couple of others) so I understood that this whole cholesterol idea is a myth and is integral to health. I never really correlated it to my own blood values though. I just didn't feel concerned anymore eating cholesterol rich foods. Docs told me that low cholesterol is fine.. Anyway, I have these Adrenal issues which are causing problems for my Thyroid and Hormonal System this in turn causes X symptoms.. I work with a few docs for Adrenal and Thyroid issues.. I've read Peatfield's work as well as " Stop the Thyroid Madness " I've tried using some of those methodologies and it doesn't work for me and in the meantime I need to up my Thyroid meds. Since being on LDN I have needed to up my thyroid meds. I use Chinese herbs compounded for me (illegal but any newbie reading this I have been on the diet over 2 years) for my Adrenal health. Which have kind of stopped me from needing to increase Thyroid meds again. But it's been like, what's going on?? As I feel erratic energy wise and sleep wise. So he went back to the drawing board and looked at the basics again and understood cholesterol values have been chronically low- this also contributes to low immune health too. My values are only good when I am on Prednisone which is interesting since cortisol production in adrenals need cholesterol- makes me kind of correlate appetite increase. Tangent! So, now he doesn't feel so confused about my situation and I am trying to understand what I can do. I would like to understand more about liver support as apparently lemon water can lower cholesterol and so can the medication questran (which I take from time to time) Kinda trying to figure this out. I hope I answered your question? Jodi > > > Hey Ya'll.. > > So my acupuncturist thinks he figured out why my immune health and hormonal system is all wonky.
