Guest guest
Hi, You would probably be better off asking your surgeon - there are a number of studies that have been done on this topic. From what I've read and what my surgeon told me, people who had lower jaw surgery have the biggest chance of permanent numbness, numbness from upper jaw almost always resolves at some point. If you had lower jaw surgery, the areas affected are usually your lower lip and chin (and your gums and tissues inside your mouth around lower teeth). The younger you are, the better your chances of full recovery. I had both jaws done at the end of February, but only one side of my chin was numb for some reason. It has been very slowly improving, but there is still quite a bit of numbness (but much much better than before). > what is the likelihood of permanent numbness following oral surgery? > i > have heard that for the most part it is temporary but sometimes can > be > permanent? does anyone know how frequent permanent numbness occurs > or > what is the most likely cause of it during surgery? > > as for temporary numbness, how temporary is it usually? and what > areas > are most susceptible to being numb?
