bloating after surgery

I had my gallbladder removed on Tuesday I have been doing fine except for

bloating and gas which has caused almost unbearable pain in my right shoulder.

My

stomach is so tight it feels like a basketball and my pajamas feel tight. I

have not had a b.m. since surgery so this could be part of the problem. I was

wondering if anyone else had experienced anything like this and if so, What did

you do to correct the problem? I have been taking gasx but it has done

nothing.

Sorry for the double post, I forgot to sign my name.

Try milk of magnesia. I took this after having my gb

removed and it helped both gas and constipation.

bloating and gas which has caused almost unbearable pain in my right

shoulder.

=============================

Nikki:

For the pain in your right shoulder, you can massage the area or have

someone massage it for you. The pain you are experiencing is trapped gas

(if you had it done laparoscopically). I found that massaging the area

help break it up. You may want to try something gentle and mild to help

you have a bowel movement, but check with your doctor first.

Hope you're feeling better.

I dealt with exactly the same problems. (My GB was removed two weeks ago today.)

This is what I did:

*Immediately stopped all pain meds

*Walked for 10-15 minutes every 2 hours (or more often if I was hurting badly)

*Took a stool softener (Colace) to get some relief from constipation (which for

me is always caused by pain meds and by anesthesia)

*Drank a lot of water

*Ate only crackers, broth and protein shakes. Some fruit like strawberries too

after a while. No dairy, nothing with any fat.

*Like you, took Gas-X regularly.

Also, the more physically active I became, the better I did with the gas. It

sort of worked its way " down " -- from the upper body to my tummy - and then, um,

out.

Now after two weeks I can eat a greater variety of items. I still have a bit of

a " balloon belly " by the end of the day.

But not the shoulder pain and nothing like what I had in the beginning. And now

I have the diahrrea that is more typical of postop GB patients, from what I

understand.

Good luck. I know EXACTLY how you are feeling.

hugs,

Ann
