Guest guest
Hi all, I haven't posted for a couple of weeks since my dilemma with my OS and ortho saying they wanted me to switch my ceramic brackets to stainless steel. I decided to follow the advice, and was switched over on Tuesday. The orthodontist had a terrible time getting the ceramic brackets off. He finally had to resort to breaking them into pieces, and then taking a file and filing the remaining parts off my teeth. I had four stainless steel brackets on the back teeth that he also took off, and they just " popped " off easily and perfectly. " Wow " , I said, " It's strange you guys wanted my ceramic switched to metal because the ceramic can just pop off during surgery. It seems to me that the ceramic are staying on a lot better than the metal. " The ortho got a funny look and said that it had really been the OS' decision, because one of his business associates had had the ceramic pop off during surgery. The ortho's assistant went so far as to say that she didn't think this was actually necessary for me because for some reason my teeth enamel holds the bonding better than most other people's. " Please don't tell me that now, " I said. For those of you who remember I was torn in making the decision whether or not to follow the advice of the OS and ortho in having them switched. Oh well, it's done now, and on the positive side, I have to say, the metal brackets are much smaller and poke out much less than the ceramic, but at this point this is the only positive I've found. They're hoping to put back on the stainless steel wires on June 7th along with the hooks, and then the OS' can get ready for the surgery. Here's hoping. Just wanted you all to know that I had went through with it. Connie
