Guest guest
The jaw bones are back to their original strength (in some cases stronger than ever) 6 months post-op. Unless there are physical fights involved, I doubt very much that you could have damaged anything. Jaw pain is usually caused by tension in your jaw muscles. I was in a similar situation as you the other day and, being only 7 weeks post-op, my jaw joints quickly began to ache and the soreness lasted through the night. Normally, you don't notice the muscle tension until it starts hurting. This is just from my experience of course. I certainly wouldn't worry about having to have surgery again unless you had a complete relapse of your open bite. Yann > Hi all, > > I haven't posted here in a long time. Guest guest
Hi, I'm very sorry to hear about the pain that you are experiencing so long after the surgery. Given that you said that you've been having a lot of fights recently I think that as Yann mentioned the pain is most probably due to muscle strain in the jaw joints. I know that everytime I have a fight with my family or boyfriend I break out into the worse migraines and there is not much that I can do about it except not fight, which as we all know, is easier said than done. Have you spoken to your doctor about the pain you have been experiencing? When was the last check up visit you had? I'm not due for my surgery for another 2 weeks but it is my understanding that usually one has a check up visit after 1 year. Maybe you should go in to have an xray done and check to see if any of the plates or screws might be making your pain worse. I agree with Yann that unless you are physically seeing a relapse in your bite it is highly unlikely that you will have to undergo the surgery again, unless there is something wrong with your actual joints. Either way I would say that the best person to speak to would be your oral surgeon. You might be grinding your teeth during fights (which is what I do) that places an extra strain on the joint and muscles. Try to keep your chin up and focus on the positives that have come out of the surgery - presumably your open bite has been fixed and you can bite into food perfectly now. As for the problems at home, those are perhaps harder to resolve but i know from personal experience that there is always light at the end of tunnel even if it doesn't seem like it right now. Keep us posted on your progress. Sending you a big virtual hug. Sara > Hi all, > > I haven't posted here in a long time. Guest guest
First of all, forget any connection between " your fault " and pain. Unless you're into the Munchausen syndrome, or self-damaging things. Those are way beyond my ken. But as far as pain being the result of something you've done: You know the answer, and the answer is most likely to be no. Now. This " fighting. " Physically? Could someone have hit you and broken your jaw? If so, you have a bigger problem than a broken jaw, until you get yourself out of danger, to be blunt. If it's mainly emotional -- sure, clenching your teeth can bring on pain. That has little to do with whether or not you chose surgery, far as I know. The surgery has probably spared you some pain, in my best guesstimate, because the pressures are more balanced. But hey -- why are you asking here? Head for your surgeon, or another competent one, and ask there! That's where the real answers live. Meantime, best wishes to you. Cammie > Hi all, > > I haven't posted here in a long time. Guest guest
Cammie, There's been no physical fighting whatsoever, so I can be thankful for that. My apologies for posting a message that wasn't quite a question. Most of the questions people post on this board can be best answered by a professional. However, I'm sure the majority would agree with me that it's the comfort in knowing that someone has been through the same things that is most often sought. That's what I was looking for. Thanks to you and the others who took the time to respond to my message. This jaw surgery thing has been a rough road in some ways, so I'm glad that there's been a place where all of us are in the same boat, one way or another. > > Hi all, > > > > I haven't posted here in a long time.
