Humira is a weekly (sometimes every other week) injection that is

usually self-administered; it comes in pre-filled syringes and pens.

The drug decreases with your body's ability to produce inflammation by

interfering with one of the proteins that signals for inflammation

called TNF-alpha. By stopping the inflammation, its stops most of the

symptoms of Crohn's. I was on it for a few months last year and it

freaked me out: I ended up with ringworm and an eye infection that

still hasn't gone away entirely, as well as becoming extremely

photosensitive and developing tiny lumps all over my body. The drug

hasn't been on the market long so we don't have very much long term

data but I wouldn't take it again for all the money in the world

because I'm sure there are all sorts of serious side effects that we

don't even know about yet.

It's also really expensive and when I started on it, the drug company

send me a box of promotional swag, including a huge flashing timer to

stick on my fridge so I wouldnt' forget to take it.

The combo of Humira weekly and SCD has gotten me off steroids for the first time

in 2 years. If you decide to start, check out humirahelp.com to have them

provide co-pay assistance no matter what your insurance coverage.
