Guest guest
Currently, I have been following the SBD for the last week & 1/2...and the thing that they want you to get away from are processed foods & they do not recommend the protein shakes & bars. I did find while food shopping this last time that I spent much more time in the outer perimeter of the supermarket. Although you can get along okay without the book....if it is something you are going to do, you should get it. I have been doing it without the book (only because it got lost in transit), but when I move into the second phase, I will make sure I have it. ilene post op - sept 7, 2001 lap rny dr. wayne english - florida medical center 289 (bmi 53)/143 (bmi 26.2) -- Still overweight, but not Super Morbidly Obese anymore! Guest guest
Hi everyone, In order to assist others in my family who want to do this, I am now on the South Beach diet. Sort of. My son (almost 14) has a big tryout coming up for next year's statewide travel baseball team. He wants to " play up " another year so he will be competing with guys a year older for a spot on the team. He thinks his speed will be improved by strengthening his " core " (abdominal muscles) and losing 10 pounds. His trainer (I can't believe my 13-year-old has a trainer but there it is) suggested a Functional Fitness routine - kind of like Pilates in that it uses the body for resistance - and 2 weeks on the SB diet. My dh has been wanting to lose 20 or 30 but needs a jump start. My 9 year old will eat the SB way at home but gets a pass while at school. She's heavy into her travel soccer schedule so will also need carbs on game days to keep up with the running pack. I read the book last night and guess what: I've been on the SB diet practically since wls. I just didn't know it. It's 2 weeks of protein and veggies followed by adding in low glycemic carbs. Except for my popcorn habit (lol) I'm there. I've been telling my family for 4 years that all they had to do was eat like me, only greater amounts, and they'd be fine. But they had to buy a 20-dollar book and hear it from a trainer to believe it. I'll keep you posted on how we are doing! hugs, Ann
