Guest guest
Our daughter is 16 months and newly adopted and has severe plagio/brachy and they say it will help even at her age...so i am sure you will get results for him! DC > > Hi everyone! My son is almost 9 1/2 months old and will be getting his DOC band in a few weeks for brachy. When we went to our pediatrician for his 6 month appt. he commented on his flatness but said it should start rounding out by itself. So we waited. Now in retrospect I wish we would have gone to CT then, but I can't go back in time. At his 9 month check up he said since it's not starting to round on its own, now is the time to go. We had our appt. at CT yesterday and we're just waiting on the ped sending in the prescription so we can start. I just wanted to hear if anyone still got a good result starting a bit later. She showed us some before and after photos of kids that started around this age and there was a significant difference. I do feel we're doing the right thing. >
Guest guest
My son just got his DOC band for plagio at the end of Dec. and was nearly 9 months when he got it. We have already seen good improvement, and we're less than 3 weeks into it! He has been having a growth spurt--great timing on his part. I feel very encouraged, and think you have good reason to be confident that your son will have good correction during his time in the band. We have loved CT thus far and feel very good about their proven success rate, particularly with " older " babies. You're right--you can't change anything in the past, so don't beat yourself up. You're on the road to correction! Best of luck! Mom to , 9 months old, DOC Band on 12/29 > > Hi everyone! My son is almost 9 1/2 months old and will be getting his DOC band in a few weeks for brachy. Guest guest
My daughter was a bit younger, but you should still see good results starting at this age. I'm sure it will help quite a bit. I get so aggravated with doctors telling parents to wait, when they could be treating younger babies, but this seems to be an ongoing battle. At least you're doing it now. I hope things go smoothly for you. Post some pictures of your son if you have time. -christine sydney, 4yr, starband grad > > Hi everyone! Guest guest
Luke wore a STARband when he was 5-7 months and then a DOCband when he was just a week shy of 10 months to 13 months. I am so happy that we decided to band again because he improved so much in his band even though he started it at a " late " baby age. He went from 14mm to 4mm and I can hardly notice anything. I think you will get good results. Maybe not perfect, but results that will not be noticeable to the uneducated eye. Congrats for making the decision. Good luck! Guest guest
I felt the same way as you. My son is 7 1/2 months, but the pediatrician mentioned the possiblity of a DOC band at the 4 month appt. if repositioning him didn't work. I wish we had just done it then, but I understand taking the time to try a less invasive approach first. One thing that has bugged me though is that he is clearly in the middle of a huge growth spurt, but he hasn't gotten the band yet because the doctor lagged on sending in the perscription. I am glad to hear that the band works well on even older kids, so I do have some relief. > > Hi everyone! My son is almost 9 1/2 months old and will be getting his DOC band in a few weeks for brachy. Guest guest
Hi -- not to get off topic here, but could you share why Luke had the DOCband? My little girl has her STARband now (will be from around 5.5 to probably 7.5 or 8 months) similar to Luke's timing, so wanted to see why Luke needed another. Thanks! Tracey > > > > Hi everyone! Guest guest
Hi Tracey, It truly is all about the orthotist. In my opinion, Luke's STARband ortho lacked experience, skill and knowledge. His STARband never fit correctly. Despite numerous attempts by his ortho to improve the fit, it consistently rotated to the left and ended up flattening a part of his head that was round in the beginning. I believe that if we had a competent ortho, Luke would have been in his STARband for 3-4 months and his head would have reached the normal limits. However, we decided to take the band off early because it was creating other problem areas. We decided to re-band him with a DOCband because we wanted to go with a company that had a great reputation and we also didn't want to take another chance with an unskilled ortho. If your daughter's ortho has a good reputation and qualified, the STARband is a great product that definitely can help with plagio and brachy. HTH!
