I went for my 4 week check up yesterday, and my OS said that

everything still looks good. I am scheduled for June 12th to get

unwired. I will then be tightly banded for a week. Then I will be

loosely banded for another week to make sure that I am not having any

relapse. He didn't say what would happen if there were any movement,

but I am hoping that we don't even have to have that discussion!

Provided that all goes well, I will then have my splint removed, and

he said that I should go to my OD the same day that I get my splint

removed. Hopefully it will all be down hill from there.

,

It sounds like things are going well for you! I'm so glad! I get

unwired on June 29th. Maybe you can share that experience with me

after you go? I'd really appreciate that!

Waving to you as you head down hill! :)

. . you had a lower down is the correct? i'm wondering whether i

will require the banding as well. supposedly my OS also used internal

fixation using screws, so i don't know if that does anything in terms of

needing extra banding at the end of a wiring season. mmm. ..?

I had my lower done. He said the wiring allows for the bone to heal

without moving the entire jaw back. Then the tight banding gives

some " power " back to the muscles in the joint. With the wiring, the

muscles can't pull your jaw back, but with the banding, they should

be able to see within 24 hours whether or not the muscles are going

to pull the jaw back. Then he said they move to a lighter band to

give the muscles even more power over the situation, and to see if

they are going to cooperate. If there is no, or minimal movement

after the 2 sets of banding, then the splint comes out, and it is

determined that all has gone as expected. I'll keep you posted on

how this whole process goes for me.
