Guest guest
Alice, I'm sorry that you haven't been feeling well. I've never heard of esophageal dismotility. Motility is movement, so I assume it means that the esophagus is not moving food along like it should. Bowel motility can be affected by some meds, especially narcotics, causing constipation. I really don't know about the esophagus. Have your docs suggested a cause for this & is there a treatment? Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Guest guest
I have not been diagnosed with this, however I do have trouble swallowing, and sometimes food gets stuck. The other thing I have trouble with is swallowing water, if it doesn't go down it comes out, not pretty, I have spit a whole mouth full of water into my plate, yuk. so maybe this is the same thing, when I tell my doc he says it's all related. I have been feeling like crap, headaches daily, some so bad I think I'm going crazy. Oh well such is life, Blessings, Marla I haven't felt good in a while. Guest guest
Marla, when the sarc was first active, I had trouble swallowing mostly liquids & small stuff, like small pills. I would even choke on my own saliva! I also had a tendency to choke on my meds (I toss them all in at once, big & little) & then start coughing, which would often lead to bladder incontinence. Once it happened when Theresa was standing there & I peed down my leg, we both started laughing which made me cough worse, which led to more incontinence. I didn't want to run to the bathroom & pee all over the house, so I just stood in the kitchen, filling up my sneakers while trying to pick pills out of the sink! Still one of our favorite mother-daughter memories; she'll probably tell that story at my funeral. Anyway, I had a swallowing study which--guess what?--was normal! Over the years the problem has gradually improved, although I'll still occasionally choke on a small pill (and yes, I still chuck them in all at once). I don't have enough saliva to choke on now, thanks to Sjogren's. I believe it was sarc-related, as there were no other potential suspects such as new meds, etc. We haven't had many responses to the check-in call. I hope it's the heat & not that many are sicker. I hope that your headaches lessen, if not disappear. Guest guest
Marla; when I had this problem I was found to be suffering from chronic gastric reflux for which I was placed on prescription medication. Before I was diagnosed I was hospitalized for dehydration because I was afraid to drink or eat because everything would come back up or back up into the wrong pipe/organ. Guest guest
, I tried medication for acid reflux it didn't help, I do get some acid from time to time, and it's totally different, I do believe mine is more related to the Sarcoid, as I find when I'm tired its worse, and I will even " leak " from the left side of my mouth when drinking.
