To my “family”:

My husband, best friend, and greatest supporter was officially activated as

of yesterday. He was promoted, as a part of his activation, to Sgt. 1st

Class. He leaves Wednesday for Ft. Carson, CO, and will go from there to

Kabul, Afghanistan, as a part of Operation Phoenix. I am going to miss him

terribly, but I support him fully. He is going to witness events in that

nation, that have never occurred before. He is scheduled to be there for one

year, with the possibility of an extension beyond that. The Afghani people

are scheduled to have their first national election in June of next year.

This is an event that has NEVER occurred in written history. This is the

first time the US Government has set up a Headquarters operation since the

Korean War. I’m not making any political statements, but I am proud of my

husband for his dedication to this country. He’s got 18 ½ years in the

National Guard. He could have gotten out of this mission. He wasn’t even

assigned to the Battalion that is going, but was hand selected by folks in

Washington for his ability and dedication. He could have turned it down, but

chose not to, with my support.

When you say your prayers every night, please include Sgt. 1st Class Freddie

L. Holdaway, Jr, and all the soldiers of the 45th Infantry Division, US

Army.
