I had surgery on May 19 (upper and lower) and would have been okay to

go home that night. At the class that my surgeon gave a few days

before surgery, the nurse said that the only reason uppers have to

stay in the hospital is in case you have 'gusher.'

What that means is that during upper surgery, cuts are made into the

sinus region. So, after surgery, you might (I personally had no

bleeding) have a bloody nose. In case you start gushing blood, you

are kept overnight so that they can control it. Remember, this only

what I was told, I am not in the medical field.

If you do go home the same day, be aware that you are going to get

less antibiotics. So, keep everything really clean afterwards and

watch out for signs of infection (fever of 101 or higher, increased

swelling around incisions, etc).
