Guest guest Posted May 20, 2005 Report Share Posted May 20, 2005 Hi , I had my surgery done 8 days ago and already i have faced all the issues you have raised. i had a lower done and my jaws have been wired shut. the first few days were pretty demoralizing because there was no chance to ease into a wired jaw. .. i also have a problem with eating or drinking should i say. the first 7 days i lived on Boost and a protein shake on the side. Needless to say, i grew literally sick of that diet and the mere thought of consuming them made me nausous. I came on here and asked around for any suggestions on salty liquid diets and a couple people came through.. Sara suggested a potato soup. .. mash potatoes, flavour it with sour cream, butter, chive, whatever suits your taste; throw that in a blender along with some boullion and use milk to make it as thick as you want. There are a ton of calories in there from the potatoes, milk. THrow in some eggs for the protein that you will need. Diet and sense of well being go hand in hand for me. .. i love to eat, and so for me its important that i eat good tasty food that have all the nutrient components to fuel my hectic days of recovery. I avoid depression by getting out of the house and taking walks in the sun with my pooch. Coming on here and communicating with people in similar situations helps a ton. . hence the name support group! being wired shut, i don't anticipate my life being " normal " for another 5 weeks when hopefully i'll be unwired. so for now i'll have to make the best of what i do have control over. .. and simply ignore the rest. .. some days will be easier to get through than others, but generally, they should be better each day. .. keep drinking fluids, take walks, watch GOOD movies, laugh even if it hurts a little, and take lots of naps!

& nbsp;

derrick

& gt;From: aussiesarah78 & lt;no_reply & gt;
& gt;Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;To: orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] 15 days post op
& gt;Date: Fri, 20 May 2005 06:44:42 -0000
& gt;
& gt;Ciao to all -
& gt;
& gt;I'm , a 24 year old female in Oakland, CA. I had an upper & amp;
& gt;lower jaw surgery 15 days ago.
& gt;
& gt;I'm still on pure liquids (no particles) b/c my incisions aren't
& gt;completely healed. Boost for breakfast, some sort of strained cream
& gt;soup for lunch and milkshakes. I'm totally uninspired by food. I
& gt;doubt I'm getting enough calories. In another week, I get to switch
& gt;to pureed food for a month...
& gt;
& gt;I'm pretty exhausted all the time & amp; just don't feel particularly
& gt;hopefully about normal life returning soon.
& gt;
& gt;My pain isn't too bad. I get some strange tingling throughout my
& gt;face and still have trouble w/ normal animation. Drinking from a
& gt;glass still involves drool. Ah, yes. My upper cheeks are a little
& gt;numb & amp; chin. I feel my lips, but not completely normally yet.
& gt;
& gt;A lot of my swelling is gone, but I'm not sure how much more my face
& gt;will change due to surgery & amp; weight loss.
& gt;
& gt;Any thoughts on energy, diet, depression, when normal life will
& gt;return?
& gt;
& gt;Thanks to all for reading,
& gt;
& gt;
& gt;
& gt;
Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
