Guest guest
Hi, EverybodtyWell, you can probably figure out, from the subject lime, whatI'm going to write about. It's a kinduv humorous but very serioustruth that it took me many years and a lot of discomfort to finally realize. It's also something I've seen no mention of, either here in the group. or in reference to Elaine's writing -- although maybe I've missed mention of it in both places. What I'm talking about is mastication. While the origins of GI issues are structural and/or biochemical, my own experience has taught me that chewing my food until it is "creamy," as I was told as a kid, is absolutely necessary. Whatever digestiveissues we are dealing with, I believe, can only be aggravated by swalling food that is still 'solid' in some form. I learned this years ago, after having been diagnosed with incipient gall stones. Of course, this problem was not caused by insufficiently masticated food but not chewing my food well certainly put extra stress on my already abused stomach and GI tract. So, I just want to comment on mastication, for whatever interest it might have.Bob in Tucson
Guest guest
So, I just want to comment on mastication, for whatever interest it might have.Definitely chewing is super important! Which is why I take pride in being possibly the slowest eater on the planet =) Also probably why smoothies and pureed foods are so much easier to digest; they're pre-chewed! Guest guest
Is it important that smoothies be made with cooked fruits and veggies or can you put them in raw since they are being mixed? ThanksIt all depends on what you tolerate. Try both ways and see if you react to the raw. Guest guest
If you use something like a vitamix, it will tear the food apart as well as cooking will do. The only way to see if you tolerate this is to try it. Guest guest
Oh, when I thought I was the slowest eater on the planet!! Funny, cause I used to be the fastest eater on the planet. And I think it was the main reason why my digestion is so sloooow now. My body is rebelling. Its just annoying when my family takes 10 minutes to eat, and i'm chillin at the dinner table for another 30 LOL. It gives me time to know whether or not I need more food or not, and then sometimes I have another bowl of soup for a half hour. And it turns out I eat all day long. Fun times. But yeah, chewing slowly has been extraordinarily helpful for me, it is great for stimulating appetite as well.EllenTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sun, August 8, 2010 9:55:24 PMSubject: Re: my stomach doesn't have teeth So, I just want to comment on mastication, for whatever interest it might have.Definitely chewing is super important! Guest guest
Thanks Bob, Thats a really good reminder to me. I don't particularly like eating anymore so I just try to get it over with. I can't eat the foods that I really like anymore such as cheese, ice cream etc. I definitely have to chew more thoroughly. Take care, June > > Hi, Everybodty > > Well, you can probably figure out, from the subject lime, what > I'm going to write about. It's a kinduv humorous but very serious > truth that it took me many years and a lot of discomfort to finally realize. > It's also something I've seen no mention of, either here in the group. or in > reference to Elaine's writing -- although maybe I've missed mention of it in > both places. > > What I'm talking about is mastication.
