Guest guest
Joanna - the yogurt is the least of your problems. Yogurt was invented as a way to be able to store and utilize milk because no one had refrigeration. It's other stuff I'd worry about first. Mara > Marilyn- now I have just a very SMALL inkling of emotion to relate to what it must have been like for you in the hurricane. We have been without power since 4am... 5 1/2 hours and counting. I am freaking out!!!! I've been cooking all week to prepare for a week long vacation that I am leaving for in 3 days. Let's hope the power kicks in soon or I am going to have to leave work and put together a serious rescue mission. I can't lose my yogurt!!!!!!!!!!! > I did bring all of my yogurt starter and probiotics into work to put into the fridge. > Thanks for listening... I just really needed to vent to everyone who would understand. I'm sure it will be okay... > -Joanna > > > > ------------------------------------ > >
Guest guest
Thanks Mara! That does make me feel better. The freezer is probably my biggest enemy right now. I also forgot to mention that I brought my immersion blender to work and made my smoothie (with ice from my cafeteria) in the bathroom. I was literally huddled over the sink, crushing ice in the freaking bathroom... So there I was thinking to myself " a year ago I never would have dreamed I'd be doing this " ! The things we do for SCD!!! -Joanna > > > Marilyn- now I have just a very SMALL inkling of emotion to relate to what it must have been like for you in the hurricane. BUT, my husband (my hero!) just bought a generator and is at home fiddling with it.

Guest guest
About a month ago we lost power on a sat and it was estimated to be back tue night. I panicked and had my husband buy a generator. It would have cost the same amt at least to replace all the food. Now I'm a bit more ot peace.UC-C 12/09SCD 1/10Daily, CLO, Magnesium, bromelain, acidophilus Mom of 2 crazy monkeys :-) Oh no joanna....my power keeps going out!, can you tell joanna and I live near eachother?? Panic 2. Try to keep from hysterically crying 3. Send husband to buy generator at ANY cost! But, it's up and running and we should probably have one anyway. Plus, like you said, the cost of our food and time that went into the prep is worth at least the cost of a generator! Marla- is your power back on? Guest guest
Power came back on...so far so good. I don't think the storms are gone yet though. We really should get a generator. 2 months ago power was out for 2 days and I hauled all my freezer food to 2 different friend's houses! I was determined not to lose all my hard work!! I'm sure it will be okay... We had a power outage this morning, also. I had had a few hours of sleep, and then the power was off, and I don't try to sleep without my bipap. SO yeah, I understand! It may be this heat wave.... instead of turning their air conditioners a little higher to reduce the strain, everyone is turning them lower because they are so hot. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
We get periodic power outages that last for days here. After the first real hugie, that lasted 6 days of shivering in front of the fire and climbing in bed with all our clothes on, etc, DH and most of the other guys int he neighborhood went out and got generators. It's still a bit primitive, we still huddle by the fire most of the time, but we can rotate using a few things here and there and keeping frig and freezer from having to be totally emptied as that long one made me do. I'm SO glad your DH got the generator. It's hard to throw good stuff out like that. And may the power come back on very soon. We have been without power since 4am... 5 1/2 hours and counting.
