Guest guest
I sure agree with this pic of a ripe one! But I have had a couple of those strange bunches of bananas that did retain a bit of greenness while having lots of brown spots. In my case, they were fully sweet and soft and I considered them ripe. If they still had seemed to have that starchy taste that distinguishes un-ripe ones, I'd have foisted it off on DH, who doesn't care (and neither does his gut). How about this? http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/674267/2/istockphoto_674267-ripe-banana.jpg And , I would guess that if the banana is mushy, it's plenty ripe, even if it's still a little green along with the spots. The point of it being ripe is so that the starches are broken down, and as that happens, the banana gets less firm, so I would go by that. I'm sure the bananas you've been eating are fine. Cheers!
