NATIONAL CELIAC WALK-A-THON DAY is Saturday, May 17. This year a walk is

planned for the beautiful Stanford campus beginning at 9am. It is a short

stroll past the historical main quad, ornate church, outdoor artwork,

Hoover Tower and the Museum. After the walk you can wander back to any of

the sights that interest you, take a ride up the elevator of Hoover Tower

to catch a view from San Francisco to San , spend some time in the

Museum (no entrance fee), or bring your bikes and ride around campus. Next

door is the Stanford Shopping Center, another great way to spend the

afternoon. A Stanford baseball game begins at 1pm. Bring a blanket and

picnic lunch and relax on the lawn until the game begins. After the walk,

researchers will draw blood from volunteers who are diagnosed celiacs to

use in research. Researchers will also attend the walk and can answer any

questions you may have. Gluten free cookbook author Carol Fenster, Ph.D.,

will join us in the walk. If you have one of her cookbooks, bring it along

for an autograph. Even if you do not intend to walk, you can collect

pledges and sponsor someone who is walking. A walk packet will be e-mailed

to you in a separate message and the forms will also be available at

http://celiacsupport.stanford.edu or by calling Sue Hersom at 408-723-0804.
