Their is a second test and I'm not sure what it is called but it is a lot more specific for the thyroid. Most doctors do not do this test because it cost about $250. I simply asked my physician if there was a test that was better to check the thyroid. *** most docs run a simple TSH. what you want is a full thyroid panel with t3, t4, free index and comparative values. sue

Guest guest
my hair dresser decided it would be best for me to keep my hair shorter for now until after the losing process is done. because of the added weight the longer you hair is adds. hoping the process doesn't take too long though laurette 4/23/04 open rny 309/290/245/

Guest guest
Deitra, Mine is about that length and I have deep conditioning treatments and recently had about an inch taken off to keep it trimmed up. On top of that I take Hair, Skin, and Nail vitamins from Natrol. I'm still losing pretty consistently, but it seems to have lessened. I try not to keep it pulled up too much (especially at night) and when it's wet and just be extra careful with it . Guest guest
I find them at Walgreens without a problem, surprised Wal-Mart didn't have them. Try Walgreens or CVS maybe? Guest guest
I bought the Hair, Skin and Nails vits online. But they are made by GNC, so if you have one of their stores near you, you should be able to get it there. I bought the Progaine shampoo at CVS pharmacy store, and got the Nioxin online (after trying many hair salons). > Maybe someone can help me here,,,,,,I have read alot about people's hair falling out a few months after surgery......My hair is over half way down my back,,,,,,,,,will I need to get it cut ,,,,maybe to prevent it from coming out any quicker ? Guest guest
I don't know because I am only two months out but I am losing hair noticeably when I brush it. My hair is half way down my back too and I do not think that it makes a difference. I asked my doctor and they said not to chemically treat it within 9 months or so after surgery including perms and color. They told me that I could get it cut but that I didn't have to. They said that hair length does not matter, that we are all different. I am getting Nioxin shampoo from Trade Secret tomorrow to prevent bad hair loss. Guest guest
Gee, I wish someone had told me coloring my hair post-op wasn't a good idea. I just colored it a couple of weeks before the hair loss started. I have no intention of cutting it though. Right now it's just past my shoulders. Guest guest
> Gee, I wish someone had told me coloring my hair post-op wasn't a good > idea. ---------------- I've colored my hair already. Oh, well. When you guys lose your hair, how noticable is it? Does it fall out evenly or in clumps? I have very thick hair, and could stand to lose a good amount of it, but not if it comes out in clumps! Janet
Guest guest
No clumps. Just shedding by the fistful. Because my hair is blonde, I usually can't even see the ones that have fallen out....I just feel something tickling me and pick them off. My hair is definitely NOT thick, but so far, no bald patches. > > I've colored my hair already. Oh, well. When you guys lose your hair, > how noticable is it? Does it fall out evenly or in clumps? Guest guest
When I look at my brush after brushing my hair, it has strands everywhere. I haven't had clumps fall out though. Guest guest
Hi Laurette! Mine started to fall out at 3 months, too. It continued until about 6 1/2 months. It made me crazy! My surgeon said some people are just prone to it. I didn't take any supplements and now wish I had. But after about 7 months, it stopped falling out and started to grow back. It looks fine now! GOod luck! I hope it doesn't get too bad and that it stops sooN!!! > Okay folks, I am now three months out and am starting too loose my > hair.....not what I wanted to have happen. Guest guest
hi and welcome to the group. i am 3-1/2 months out from surgery and within the last 2 weeks i started to lose my hair. i've been told that it could last for about 3 months, won't be too severe, but for me any hair loss is. luckily i have really thick hair and no one has noticed it but me. i started taking a vitamin called biotin. several folks from here have recommended that and also Nails, Hair and Skin vitamin. The NH & S are in caplet form and i would have to crush them to take where the Biotin is a small tablet much easier and i can swollow that whole. not everyone goes through this though. we need to make sure we get in enough protein and water daily. i try my darnest but can't always make it every day. i wish you lots of luck on your upcoming surgery. keep us posted. laurette 4/23/04 open rny 309/290/244/150 St. Charity Cleveland, Ohio

Guest guest
Welcome, and good luck to you--- I am 13 months post-op, and started losing my hair about four montghs after surgery, and it didn't start growing back (a bit curlier than it was) until about eight months after surgery. My Dr. suggested that I try zinc sulfate (he prescribed it for me), but I started taking it so late that I am not sure if it was the zinc or the passage of time that solved the problem. I stopped taking the zinc about two months ago, and I have not lost any more hair. Helena (papa11h@...)
