Guest guest
I have noticed that a great number of this group are taking anti-depressants. I have been reading a lot about vitamins and minerals for the gastric bypass patient. The materials were presented at the ASBS Conference this year and last year. I am sure they were written for the professionals (physicians, nutritionists, nurses, bariatric program directors, etc.) I was very surprised at the number of references that indicated that some vitamins and minerals are not absorbed by a patient taking antidepressants. There was some reference to indicate that oral contraceptives can also effect absorption. This was a surprise to me. I discussed this with my son and his wife, (they are both doctors). They were aware of this information. So if other doctors are aware, then why are we not warned about this by those treating the gastric bypass patients? Or, have you been told before you were prescribed the anti-depressants? I have never taken an antidepressant. I took oral contraceptives for several years ago. I had Lap-RNY surgery almost 3 years ago. I have lost 215 lbs which is 100% of my excess weight. I will soon have bloodwork done. I work as a Bariatric Patient Adviser and Support Group Leader for a local hospital. I am trying to read material, attend seminars and conferences to keep informed for the patients. I am very concerned for you people who are trying to stay well-nourished and taking these other drugs. Sheila
