Guest guest
Before taking on the task of STARband cleaning, I had experience with an unusual collection of skin care equipment (for a man), two of which have proven useful. Like skin, helmet foam has pores, and fine, soft bristles are useful in penetrating them without damage. Some sources recommend toothbrushes for helmet cleaning; facial exfoliating brushes are far softer and finer, and are also more practical by virtue of their size. Check your nearest health & beauty aisle, or: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8 & node=11059551 Dollar Tree, I believe, was the source of my IGIÁ Ultra Dermabrasion Micro Exfoliation System, of which the motorized rotating brush is most useful. That was a long time ago, however. The same interest in microdermabrasion led me to microfiber cleaning cloths, typically found in your retail household cleaning section. (I use these like camp towels, and save myself a ton of laundry.) They have a micro-abrasive quality that can help with yellow-brown helmet staining, if you are willing to risk losing microscopic amounts of lining material. But even if that doesn't interest you, you'll want this cloth for the way it efficiently removes the stink- containing fluid from inside the helmet. The cloth is rinsed with water beforehand and wrung damp, otherwise it won't absorb much of anything. A quick wipedown leaves the helmet almost completely dry, and because the intermolecular forces normally present in water have been disrupted by alcohol, the cloth can then be wrung almost completely dry also. Because this fabric doesn't support microbial life nearly as much as cotton anyway, what that means is, you can use the same cloth repeatedly without it developing a strong smell of its own.
