Guest guest
Jae, What kind of a device are you wearing for your teeth grinding? Is it a full mouth guard? Guest guest
Jae, my bite has changed quite a bit since I've had braces. My back teeth barely touch and everything is hitting in weird places. I've been told this is normal though because the ortho is putting things into the right place for after surgery and I was told it could get worse before it gets better. I don't know if this info will help you any, but there are lots of things to consider to decide on whether or not to have surgery. If your bite has changed a lot, I would check with your ortho to see whats going on. > I was wondering if anybody's bite changed drastically before surgery. > I did not have an open bite before, but now I do. Guest guest
Jae, I don't remember when you said your surgery was, or how long you've been in braces... In the 7 weeks since I had my braces put on, I have gone from a severe open bite to an even worse overbite... still open but now I can *accidentally* bang my top and bottom front teeth together. OUCH! My OD said my teeth will look much worse at the time of surgery than before braces (if that's even possible, I'm afraid to see what I have coming!), but the only thing they want are all of my teeth brought down and together... surgery will correct the worst of it, especially the open bite which will still persist - and likely even worse as well. It never hurts to ask your OD, though! It's not impossible that the bite guard could be pushing things, too! Good Luck! Guest guest
Jae I was also warned that my bite and teeth would actually get worse pre- surgery due to the pre-op orthodontics and indeed it has all gotten worse! The way it was explained to me is that in order to get your teeth aligned a worsening of the bite is more or less inevitable. In my case the back teeth on my upper jaw were pushed forward so that they now sit on top of the back teeth of my bottom jaw (more or less because they only sit on top of them half way). Because of this my open bite has gotten worse. On top of this no brackets were put on my 2 upper bicuspids because they are being removed during surgery. The end result however is that while the rest of my teeth have been pushed forward and out my two bicuspids are still in their original position and really look wanky. Oh well, this is a small price to pay to achieve a good bite. Like everyone else said before me, talk about this with your OD and OS. They'll be able to address your questions more accurately. Guest guest
I don't think it's a full night guard. It doesn't cover all the teeth; it covers about 3 or 4 on each side. It's the one sold by FirstStreet. > Jae, > > What kind of a device are you wearing for your teeth grinding?
