Guest guest
Thanks to everyone that posted and gave advice or shared similar experiences. For those of you interested, here's what I found out about it: I actually went to my GPB surgeon's ofc today and after feeling my stomach/bowel area he referred me to the ER to get worked up with an XRay and whatever they felt necessary. I went to the ER and the examining doctor (in the same Facility as my GPB surgeon - so they're all familiar with the procedure) thought after pressing all over my abdomon/stomach and talking with me that I likely had an inflammed stomach, but ordered XRays, labs and a cat scan to be sure nothing worse was going on. The Cat scan and Xrays came back fine, except as he predicted it showed my stomach being inflamed. The labs were fine too, but I had low Potassium, which he attributed to it likely not being absorbed well with my stomach and intestines all inflammed. He put me on an IV drip with some medication for my stomach. Anyway, I was just released (7 hours later!) and basically was told I have GASTRITIS and have to take Previcid until this goes away once a day and something else " Carafate Slurry to take 4 times a day. They said I need to go back to the GBP ofc and work with them, but that if I followed their instructions this temporary Gastritis would subside and I'd be fine. I have to avoid caffeine, spicy foods, smoking (ouch!), drinking, MSG, and Vioxx (I take that occasionally for headaches). He also recommended soft foods for a bit to help ease things. I am sure I can have all these things again, just in more moderation and with acid reducers. We'll see what the surgeon said. The doctor said that apparently all that can produce a lot of stomach acid and it our small stomachs it is hard for the area to cope, unlike in a large stomach. I guess I should have known that from all the pre-surgery study, but I thought I was doing so well and having such minimal complications that I didn't really pay attention to the slowly worsening signs something wasn't wrong....
