Hi,

I was wondering if lymph nodes are the same thing as " glands? "

In other words, if the glands in my throat feel swollen, is that

because lymph fluid is building up in them?

Thanks,

Luna

Hi Luna,

Yes, they are the same thing. They help your body drain fluids and

fight infection. That is why they swell up when you have a cold.

They will also swell up in response to injury (even a small cut or

scratch) and inflammation. So if the lymph nodes in your neck

(cervical) or just below your jawline (submandibular) are swollen,

that is normal post-op.

If you have a sore throat at this point, that is not normal

especially if you have a fever. You could be coming down with a

virus or (I sincerely hope not) strep. It wouldn't damage your jaw

but it would make you doubly miserable. If your throat is sore, you

should probably have your surgeon check you out tomorrow.

I hope you feel better soon. by the way, I saw your pictures and

your results look great. I amazed how little swelling you had.

Hi ,

Thanks for the great info. I don't have a sore throat, and my

glands/nodes are only a little swollen, more so on the right side

where most of my pain and numbness seems to be. I notice a little

soreness in both areas you described (submandibular and cervical), so

it's good to know that that is what it is. And also, now I know where

to " steer " when I am doing self-massage.

Thanks!
