Guest guest
Hey everyone. I got released from the hospital at 1:00 today. My surgery started at 7:30 Tuesday morning and I was in recovery at 11:30, went up to my room at 1:45-2:00. Last night was not fun I must admit. Despite all the nausea meds, I ended up throwing up about 10 at night. But I did feel much better afterwards. I did not have a morphine drip ever, just a shot through my iv every four hours. I remember the operating room very little, I had him give me something while in the holding area. I remember seeing the doctors and nurses in the or but never remember counting down to get put to sleep. I remember seeing the clock at 11:30 but don't remember being woken up at all. I was awake for my catheter removal but it wasnt bad at all, and I could have cared less what they were doing to me. I dont remember them wheeling me to my room, but I do remember switching to my hospital room bed. I was surprised to find out that I had no bands or splint in my mouth after surgery. I am going to the surgeon's office on Friday and he will probably band me then. He said I wont need a splint though!!!!!! That made my day, I can talk right now, just takes a lot of effort and I sound really groggy. He said that I dont need the splint because he did not segment my upper jaw, just moved it up. He ended up getting a lot of movement out of my jaws and seemed really pleased. He raised my upper 6mm, moved my lower out 10mm, and moved my chin out 8mm. So far I am very pleased with my new look!! I will post some hospital pics and pics from today. The swelling and bruising is not bad at all. I just have a little bruise on the bottom of my chin and then my lower cheeks are chipmunked!! My numbness is much better than I expected also. Half of my lower lip, my chin and low cheeks is numb, along with the roof of my mouth and bottom of my mouth. My nose and upper lip and cheek bones are all fine, and my toungue is about half and half. I am pleased i am not more numb, but the preasure has been horrible since I can feel most of my face. Congestion wasnt bad though, I kept an oxygen mask on all day yeserday and on and off today. It felt really good. As far as eating, the day of surgery all I managed was some water and apple juice, which I did not even get till about 4 at night, I was about to die! They were trying to get me zip and squeeze and finally just brought a syringe. The syringe works really well for medicine and water and juice. Today I had 3 servings of broth, half an italian ice , and a small small bowl of icecream. The zip and squeeze works really well and I can also use a baby spoon for icecream and icees. I am enjoying those now as I probably wont get to eat them after I get bands friday. The zip and squeeze jaw wrap is wonderful by the way. It sure beats the hospital ice packs by a long run. I will try to get some pics up right now from in the hospital and today. My pain med is wearing in though so I think this is about it for today! Congrats Steph and Jen for being on the other side now too. Boy am I glad to be on the other side after all these months and months! ~~
