Guest guest
Sue... Someone recommended a wonderful site to me. Hystersisters.com It is absolutely great. You can get so much info and talk to others about the surgery just the way you talk on here to people who have had WLS. It is a wonderful group of very supportive women and the boards are separated into pre-op, post-op, etc. You will see when you get there. I learned so much both pre and post hyst. Just a little heads up that worked FOR ME. something to think about. I hadn't had a period since my WLS in June 01 and figured I had menopause and would not have the " withdrawal " type symptoms that some women experience. 1 week post op I was fine emotionally. 2 weeks post op I was hysterical. Crying over every little thing; thought my anti-depressants weren't working, didn't know what to do. It was on hystersisters that someone suggested maybe it was hormonal but I was stubborn and insisted not me because I am 51 and already hit menopause. When I saw the doc and told him he said " Boy your emotions are all over the place " and he recommended estrogen replacement. He explained that just cause I hadn't had a period and because I only had one piece of one ovary left pre-hysterectomy didn't mean that little bit of ovary wasnt producing just a little estrogen. From THIS list I had learned that we don't handle oral estrogen well so I asked for the patch. Well girlfriend... it was like the magic bullet for me. Within 1/2 hour I was a new person. Calm, rational. UNBELIEVABLE. The biggest problem with the patch for us WLS is that with the loose skin sometimes it is hard to find the right spot to have it stick etc. Also you can't have it if you have history of breast cancer in your family and you have to be diligent about your breast self exams, etc. But as for your other questions go to Hystersisters.... they talk about the various types of hysterectomies. Personally, I am glad my GYN did the abdominal. As he explained, having had the WLS ... things are kind of jumbled around in there. In fact, I had a GYN Oncologist assist in case my ovarian cyst was cancerous but also BECAUSE of having had the WLS and the way things would look different in there. It frightened me at at first that my GYN wanted the oncologist consultation. The oncologist told me that there was only a small chance that my cyst was cancerous that it was a caution thing but that he would be there also because of the WLS. Truthfully, I am really glad that my GYN was so cautious. I was his first hysterectomy on a WLS patient and he said YES, things are very different in there. If there are any other questions I can help you with feel free to write to me off list from NJ Question....for the girls > Ok, this one is for the medical types we have on list....a girlie thing. > > Finally snagged Doc for my 5 year checkup. All is well, yadda, yadda, yadda. My pouch is blah, blah, blah....Nothing has changed since last year.... > > We chatted a little about my appendectomy that wasn't. He says he say several adhesions (didn't mess with them though) and that he checked out my uterus and ovaries. I told him about my upcoming hysterectomy. He said to tell my GYN that something is anterior to something. Huh? says I... > He say, your bladder and uterus are attached. So I says...but the gyn says my uterus should be all shriveled up cause of the depo lupron shot (or whatever it is) that I've had for the past 6 months. You know...the one that caused me to have no periods....that shot! > > She told me that this hysterectomy will be easy because my ovaries and uterus will be small because of no periods. > > He says...nope! My uterus is normal, one ovary shriveled, one not. Hmmmm..... He said it could be a difficult surgery. She's doing...LASH? I think it's called. Go thru the belly button, unhook the ovaries, then whooooosh...out drops all the workins vaginally. > > Duh, silly me...I never even thought about incisions (gulp) in the vagina!! OWWIE!! > > So I guess my question is...does anyone know about this bladder/uterus thing? I'm doing bunches of protein...trying to build up...but now I'm somewhat concerned about blood loss. Especially after the problems I ran into after my arms and legs. Is a hysterectomy a vascular surgery?? To worry...or not to worry?? > > Sue > Open RNY 10/26/98 > From 500 lbs to 155 > Dr Barry L Fisher > > Pease visit my site: > www.mygastricbypass.com > > I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet > when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. > > >
