Guest guest
> I was told that men and non-menstruating women don't need more iron than what we get in a standard multi-vitamin. Some people on this list have been told that's not correct. I know that some doctors think that too much iron isn't good for our heart health. Anyway, every time I've had my iron checked it's come back ok. I get it checked once every 6 months. I'm guessing that between the chewable multi-vitamin and the iron I get from food that I'm getting plenty of iron.<<< What is your ferritin level? How does it compare to the last set of labs, the ones before that, and the pre op labs? Often, your other iron levels will look good because your blood is drawing from your 'warehouse' of iron (ferritin) to keep in normal levels. If that is happening, you will eventually deplete your store of iron and it is difficult to build it back up again. Guest guest
Sue, Your HDL is amazing !!!!! In fact, the whole profile is !!! I don't watch my fats either. I *try* to avoid carbs, but in Texas it's not uncommon for a carb to actually leap directly into your mouth, if not your hand, especially candy in doctor's offices, etc. Sheesh! My cholesterol is great, also. I've just lost about 15 pounds, and I don't limit fats. I haven't seen the oil slicks lately, but I may not be looking. My very personal opinion is that the Atkins-type diet works well with our surgeries. Meat first, chewed to smithereens, green or yellow veg, then whatever else there's room for. I thought I had eaten until full before, but this *hurt.* I'm trying desperately to avoid sugar, but really like sherbert. I've got a gift certificate to a fancy hardware store so I think I may try to get a machine and learn to make it. I think sherbert has no milk and tons of sugar, but maybe I can do something. LeCarb is making a tasty frozen thing with low carbs, but as much fat as ice cream. in Austin RNY April 1998 Re: (no subject) > > > > > > Not 100%. Well, wait. Guest guest
I also " know " that I absorb some fats, because if I take Omegabrite omega-3 fatty acids that are modified for *mental* health, my dreams become vivid and much more fun. It take me 4 capsules and only takes a " normie " friend a few capsules. But since we have to watch sugar so closely, it's nice to get to kind of " slide " (no pun) on something. in Austin RNY April 1998 Re: (no subject) > Not 100%. Well, wait. Guest guest
I had an RNY distal, so I absorb less fat than a proximal. I don't limit fat at all, and my triglycerides are 60, Chol 123, HDL 66, LDL 44. So, I am quite sure I am malabsorbing fats. Guest guest
Regarding a tummy tuck. I've already been told that my insurance (Medical Mutal) will pay for a tummy tuck when I've lost 100#s or more. As far as arms, legs and boobs, I'll have to pay for those. Guest guest
Hi, I'm Home. Had my Lap done on Wednesday. Hated the first day and the glycerin sticks. The second day was Like I died and went to heaven. I haven't had any problems. Knock on wood. I am truly blessed for the success of this whole thing and feel that reading your posts helped me to get to that point. Thank you so much. Also, my doctors at Smart Dimension were awesome. The whole thing just was orchestrated so well and efficiently. Maggie

Guest guest
Hi, Everyone: Thanks for the good messages. Someone asked about plastic surgery. My doctor said to prove sores from the skin overhang. Then the insurance company may pay for it. Hope that helps. Maggie
