Guest guest
Hi to all, I am new. I am 20 yrs old and I am having lower jaw surgery at UCLA Medical Center on August 26th and I am very nervous. I really don't know what to expect. My Doctor didn't really tell me much, I think it's because I am a patient at crianolfacial (sorry for bad spelling)clinic for " poor " people and they have so many patients. All he told me was you are getting lower jaw surgery and you can go back to work in 2 weeks. So I Would like to know some experiances and advice and some tips so I don't feel so down. Thanks. Guest guest
Welcome to the board! There is a lot of information you can find just by going back through the posts. You will find many people who have had the lower lower jaw surgery and will probably find some who have similar preop situations to you. There is a great photo section if you look to the left of the message screen. Can you share what specifically the surgeon is considering doing? I mean, do you have an underbite or an overbite that is being addressed? Some other kind of bite issue, or is it for something else? That would help you form some specific questions that someone here could answer for you. In the meantime, browse through the posts. After awhile you will get the hang of how people have prepared for the surgery, some specific questions you can ask of your surgeon (and go in with a prepared list - it is more difficult for them to brush you off if you have prepared well). This is your outcome you are talking about, and regardless if the surgery is for lesser cost, you have the right to expect a satisfactory outcome - or better! Get busy. You have time to research and prepare. You can do it! Hugs, Fran > Hi to all, I am new. Guest guest
Hi, I'm also going through a similar channel, dont worry many of the professors that work in these areas are experts in the field and are there to guide the surgery. Although they really should tell you a bit more! you should prepare a list of questions. I was told I was having surgery in 9 days [29 july] and am not really prepared but I was still given information about all aspects of the surgery. Also for anyone else on the board I was told that I will be in hospital for 5 days [i'm having upper/lower/genio]in this normal? > Hi to all, I am new. Guest guest
I had upper/lower/genio (plus a bit more) on June 20th, and was released from the hospital on June 24th. If your doctor told you you'd be in the hosital 5 days, then that's likely how long you will be in for. I don't think 5 days unusual, I was in 4 days, and was pushing to get released on day 4. I think the length of time in the hospital depends on the individual case, and what the doctor feels is appropriate.
