Guest guest
Bob, My second surgery went fine...sort of. While in surgery the surgeons found that the screws on the right side of my mandible had failed and my mandible slid forward. Of course this caused my whole lower jaw to shift left. They also found a couple of bone fragments and removed those. The tried three times to attach a plate to hold everything in place but could not get a real good grip with the screws. So, they wired me shut and called it a day. The next day we took some post op x-rays and found an abcess under my lower right wisdom tooth. So, one week later we went back to surgery (3rd time). This time they removed both wisdom teeth on the right side and the plate they had just put in. They then installed a reconstruction bar going from the vertical (ramus) portion of my mandible and ending near my chin. It has four screws on either end and is quite stable. I am no longer wired shut and things are going well. Because the scar tissue has been cut three times the incision is not healing very well, but that is the only issue right now. On the bright side, my recovery for the second surgery was very easy. Virtually no pain and minimal swelling. The recover for the 3rd surgery was even easier. I was up and roaming the hallways two hours after the surgery and was dismissed the same day. Again, no pain and only minimal swelling. Guest guest
Bob, You have truly been to hell and back. Goodness, your poor jaw bone. sounds like it got a right ol'work up. I'm glad you're sounding so positive though and that the doctors were finally able to get to the source of the problem. It sounds like this time around you're on your way to a solid and permanent recovery. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.
